There used to be and still are knowledgeable people there. But the forums have been flooded long time ago by strategypages folk. Hence such gems.

Excellent, looking at the planned numbers Caspian flotilla wont be a flotilla for much longer.

Why? It’s not like all of the Kilos will be scrapped, they are slowly being overhauled/modernized.

The Black sea and the Baltic fleet are in need of subs and not handful of them but in good numbers. Pacific fleet can also be beefed up just in case. A good deterrent against the Japanese. And with potential **** storm brewing in those regions, they may come in handy.

Only ten new diesel subs by 2020 is pathetic to be honest.

Yes, I think it will be 12 cells instead of the 8 on the Indian ships.

Certainly looks that way. Lack of Kashtan or Palash is perhaps because with additional UKSK cells and their missile’s the ship would be a tad too top heavy. Highly unlikely but besides cost there ain’t no other reason at least I can’t think of any other.

    VLS on Admiral Essen? 🙂

Hmm, the UKSK housing looks to have been also extended in length.

    http://www.lenta.ru/news/2011/11/02/carrier/

Russian carrier project will be ready by 2017, first ship to be launched in 2023. Ship will be nuclear. Second vessel planned by 2027.

That’s still long time off. But somehow I don’t see this happening especially with looming world wide economic collapse.

Is their any Indication what kind of tonnage class this future carriers might be ?

    Correction. 100% of the funding.

So it’s basically true that they are more or less only funding development of FGFA at this point. No surprise though seeing how late India became a partner.

Firstly… why do I not mention that India is engaged in a partnership with Russia to produce a “fifth generation” PAK-FA? Simple answer! The PAK-FA is not a fifth generation fighter, and will never be unless India funds every paisa of the Russian R&D that is needed to make it so. I happen to know a great deal about the PAK-FA programme. And you’ll have to wait to read about it, which I promise will happen soon.

That’s hilarious seeing as most of the funding came so far out of Russia’s own pocket.

    3×12=36 cells on 11356M
2×14=28 cells on 22350 with a mix of single and quadpacked rounds
Shtil single rail launcher = 24 rounds.

Yes, my mistake 36 cells. In my defence it was night time.

It’s safe to say though that Redut has enough space to house 48N6 missiles.

    Edit

Balls of steel to be so close to a walrus slights amount of noise can make them very cranky.

I’m looking at those pics of 11356M with VLS shtil ..and correct me if i’m wrong but there are 32 cells ? No ? And eache cell is supposedly holding a missile of 400mm in diameter.

Now here we have Gorshkov with the redut AD.

    http://img41.imageshack.us/img41/5378/10753863.jpg

Redut is supposed to house is 9M96 familly of missiles which are 240mm in diameter. Now how come then that Gorshkov has less cell’s for AD missiles then Grigorovich ? shouldn’t it have more and not less ? Gorshkov is also bit larger ship and the space for another UKSK doesn’t explaine it. You can easilly have 16 cell’s for AShM on Grigorovich by getting rid of RBU-6000 and using that space for it. Like it’s done on the Gorshkov.

Could it be Redut takes up more space on account that’s it’s housing 48N6 missiles ?

    Edit

Nevermind, I forgot about the quad-packed 9M100. Which explaines everything.

Didn’t Indian MOD decided to have second batch of Indian Talwar’s with VL launched Barak’s instead of Shtil ?

INS Tabar supposdly has barak ..but in all pics i’ve seen i’ve only seen arm launched shtil.

I recall Igor Djadhan mentioning that VLS Shtil was tested and there were problems with it that got ironed out.

Anyway didn’t snake mention Admiral Grigorovich class was going to have VLS Shtil starting from the third hull ?

They indeed could not “make” their own S-300 on par with the S-300’s they got from Russia. Supposedly HQ-19 is less capable S-400. But that’s a lot of talk, without any substance/backing to it.

I’d love to hear Sean’s thoughts about this …does he still posts here ?

How does “attempted to obtain technological and maintenance documents on the S-300 anti-aircraft missile system from Russian citizens for money” equites to China trying to steal info on S-400 ?

It’s more like China still trying to make a on par S-300 copy.

How come TR1 ? Shouldn’t the fact that project 22350 superstructure is almost totally steel compared to Steregushchy class composite superstructure alone guarantee a much faster construction time for Gorshkov class ?

I say though, Gorshkov sure looks gorgeous despite being unfinished.
