They want 3 billion for the Kazan? Someone is smoking something green @ Sevmash, and it ain’t weed.

Still less expensive then the Seawolf class counting in the inflation.

If the navy wants and it also needs a new sub they have no choice but to pay.

hmm yes you are right, the Braunschweig does not seem to go far, although for Germany with its small maritime territories, may not be as vital?
Surprising that the Milgem has such high endurance

I think it has to do more with political issue then anything else. Why are you so surprised about Milgem’s endurance ? 21 days with logistic support is about what one would expect.

That wiki is wrong on many accounts.

Credit goes to Artjohm from mp.net

Project 20385 is a heavily modified version of Project 20380. As the name suggests, the modifications begin after the 5th hull (it actually Projects 2038.0 and 2038.5, but the current nomenclature doesn’t accept dots which were used in Soviet industry).

    There are actually 3 modifications:

    – Project 20380 (Stereguschy) – 1x Kashtan-M AD on the bow, 8 x Uran ASM and 8x Paket-NK torpedoes/anti-torpedoes amidships.

    http://img717.imageshack.us/img717/6862/031gx.jpg

    – Project 20381 (Soobrazitelny, Boiky, Sovershenny, Stoiky) – 12 x Redut AD on the bow, 8 x Uran ASM and 8x Paket-NK torpedoes/anti-torpedoes amidships.

    http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/6657/103pu.jpg

    – Project 20385 (Provorny et al.) – 8 x UKSK ASM on the bow, 8x Paket-NK torpedoes/ anti-torpedoes amidships, 16 x Redut AD on the stern.

    http://img808.imageshack.us/img808/8544/attachmentgn.jpg

Sensors are the same all over until the 6th hull. Furke air search radar, Monument targeting radar, Zarya bow sonar, Vinyetka towed sonar, Sigma C3 system. The main gun is also the same 100 mm A-190, and there are also 2 X AK-630 CIWS and 8 x Igla MANPADS. Starting with the 6th hull (Project 20385) a new AESA-based radar will be used.

Also Project 20385 corvettes supposedly have improved seaworthiness.

thanks, seems like the first two European corvettes are far more geared to anti air duties and the Russian for ASW. but surprisingly the endurance of the Steregushchiy is quite low, although it is a faster ship

Braunschweig class is **** poorly equipped for AD duity if that’s the case, it’s certainly isn’t better in this regard then Steregushchy or let alone Soobrazitelny. And the endurance stated in the wiki is I believe without the logistic support.

Huh! Stole this from art @ mp.net, good poster. Navy denies plans to scrap the 941s.

Rodolpho, do you mean Tsirkon? I have nothing on it, I am curious what size it will be. Navy is standardizing on UKSK, so maybe it will be a minute complex compared to Granit.

On the positive side, apparently domestic “Club” has vastly vastly longer range than its export bretheren.

    http://rusnavy.com/news/navy/index.php?ELEMENT_ID=11768

I believe i posted about domestic Clubs having longer range.

It was also more then once hinted that Oniks had a longer range compared to the export version.

Well, the most obvious thing is they’ve stripped it of all its weapons and equipment. For all we know thats in preparation for refit.

I believe Artjomh from mp.net mentioned they have removed the reactor. In other words it’s off to ship heaven. 😉

There’a source in Vietnamese here indicates that the Soviet Union did mobilize about 29 divisions (250k personnels ( I can’t find any other source for this)) to the border of Soviet and China, help transporting Army Corp no. 2 from the Southern front to the border with China (however the China quickly retreated) and send Vietnam Grad rocket system. They also send the military advisors to Vietnam as well as the Soviet Pacific Fleet did do something to protect Vietnamese water.

They did mobilize the troops to the border …but it didn’t have the same effect because it took a while for the soviets to do so. It wasn’t really the same response 8 years back when India was in trouble. There they made it clear to the americans and the Chinese along with other parties they were ready and willing to go to war.

I knew that Vietnamese had some SU personal there that did assiste them whatever way they could …but i didn’t know that SU sent advisors. Or about the grad rockets. Or that Soviet Pacific Fleet actually sent some ships.

    thanks for the link.

but where was Russia (or SU I should say) when China invaded Vietnam in the late 70s despite a defence agreement?

The Soviet military role in Vietnam increased after that

They did not intervene but they did provide intelligence to the Vietnamese. And you were very close in getting another boot imprint from a Soviet/Russian boot on your ass. It was really the question of what America would do ..that made them hesitate. They were really afraid of another Bay of Bengal malarkey 8 years back where SU assisted India …except this one going hot.

People were taken to the hospital for checkup. Doesn’t look like anyone has died or was hurt.

If I recall correctly the BrahMos-2 hypersonic AShM is being developed with the UKSK VLS in mind. Given the range is limited to 300km only for MTCR reasons, it may be quite possible to have a 450+km domestic version, which would pack as much power as Granit.

Also, there’s been talk about extending the Klub’s range to 400-500km, so that may not be a major problem anymore. The Kirovs can carry more Klub/BrahMos-2s than Granits, so it may actually improve their attack capability.

That’s for export versions. Russian klubs been capable of that range since day one. Or at least that’s what’s been hinted on several occasions.

And the land attack and it’s non final stage supersonic variant up to 2500 km.

    http://rusnavy.com/news/navy/index.php?ELEMENT_ID=11768

There are domestic hypersonic AShM programs. Given how seemingly reluctant the RuNavy has been to induct the Brahmos, I doubt they will go for BarhMos 2 either.

Got some information about them. So far i’ve only heard Granit and Vulcan succesor was in the works ..but that was long ago.

Well, considering that there was a P-51 derivative – the Piper Enforcer with a turboprop – I’m going to risk being flailed and say that the P-51 is the best looking. :diablo:

It’s really unfortunate and sad that a weak nation as Georgia is being used a scapegoat here. This is the result of many actions the US and NATO took in the past decade or so despite Russia’s strong objections which were totally ignored.
Why does NATO want to expand deep into Russia’s neigborhood?
Why does Georgia has to pay the heavy price for NATO’s actions, like in Yugoslavia and Iraq?

gain for more power and fear of russia, nothing new

The CNN reporter is now asking Russia’s Embassador why are they bombing targets in Georgia and Tibilisi far from the war zone in Ossetia and they never asked why NATO bombed Belgrade which was also quite far from the fronts?

Hypocrisy, bias and propaganda, nothing new either

As they should be. It isn’t up to Russia to decide what a country can or can’t do.

Am i the only one who sees hypocrisy in this

If Serbia had done the same in Kosovo most of those labelled as non-citizens would have been Serbs. :diablo: Very different situation.

Russians in Latvia weren’t made permanent non-citizens. They had to apply for it, & over 50% had it by 2004

Right, 50 percent my ass and passing the citizenship test is almost impossible, that and it’s a freaking insult too boot, things have changed there though, Russian and Jews have much easier time of getting jobs at least ( good luck getting a promotion though even with a Latvian passport ) and the non Russian and Jew population isn’t treated the same way anymore.
