Harry Potter & Order of the Phoenix – film was good but what made it special for me was I saw it in a ‘drive in’ cinema in the USA – a first for me as these are getting quite rare.
Gromit,
I was on the 11.15 flight on the Wednesday. Were you part of an organised tour as I was and had another group join up with us during the week for 3 days.
I did the Tri-motor & Bell 47 last year – great fun.
If you want a copy of my pics from the flight let me know.
I too was at the show but as the air racing routine was over I was concentrating on photographing the aircraft as they passed my position. It was only when somebody shouted that i turned and saw the fireball of the resulting accident. A very sad day.
Good spot on the time that pics was take as I was on the 1pm tri-motor flight which returned about 1:15. Pic taken on base leg before turning finals.
It is was easy to get to the other side of the airfield – terminal / basler fbo (not the dc3 facility that is elsewhere) Take the shuttle bus from warbird area and that will take you all the way round the end of 9/27 and along the other FBO’s etc and terminal. Bus goes outside airfield and stops at terminal allowing the aircraft parked on the area past the terminal to be seen. You will not be allowed to walk airside in front of terminal but just get back on bus and get off once past terminal. Long walk back though 🙂 Found all the people very welcoming in terms of being invited into hangars for pics etc.
Not sure which day I will do that side but it is best to do before flying display in case there is something good & before it gets too hot. Try and get a copy of the daily paper which will give all the flying display particpants.
I am also making a return trip this year having had such a good time last year 🙂
A hat + sun screen will also be essential items if it is as hot as last year! Also take a small plastic bottle for carrying your own supply of water – there are pleanty of places to fill up. There will be loads of places to buy food / drink but these tend to be concentrated in the main show area and you will find yourself away from these if you want to see / photograph aircraft in the distant parking areas.
Having bought the latest issue yesterday I did not notice any changes (until seeing this thread and compared it with last months) Not keen on the different fonts used – it looks amateurish and inconsistent. Any publications at my workplace have a ‘style guide’ which states fonts / fonts sizes / use of bold / underline / italics so that a document looks consistent throughout.
The KISS (keep it simple stupid) acronym is often forgotten but is essential is making publications look professional and these change are imho a backward step.
VX927 – took a few on the arriving ones but the ones that were already on the ground had far to many people around during the public access time.
If you arrived between 10am and 12.30 then I may have taken a pic or 2.
flyboy.nick – i must have been standing next to you as I have similar pics of the Sea Fury!
another way to check for dust spots is the following :
a) create a duplicate layer of image and select it (background copy)
b) equalise this layer – this will show dust spots you may not know you had
c) select background layer but keep equalised version ‘on top’
d) use healing brush to remove spots – this will remove them from original layer
e) turn off / on equalised layer to check you have got all the spots
f) delete background copy NB – make sure you have this layer selected.
Very easy to do and will show up the faintest of spots.
well whoever took the pics on the UE site must have broken into the compound as there were no gaps in the fence and the gates were locked.
I stood on some pallets to get my pics and held camera over the fence (took a lot but tricky to get right hence only a few posted) and some are just not possible to get from outside.
look on http://www.seatguru.com for internal layouts – might give you an idea of which seats to ask for.
Alex,
I am also going to Geneva fo Ebace in May! – I did the show last year and it was very good. Geneva has a open terrace but there is a glass/perspex screen that you shoot through. Depending on landing direction it is easy to get shots of aircraft on approach – just turn right as you come out of the terminal and keep walking. Another place is outside the exhibition building itself – lasy year there were 4 helicopters parked outside.
Nice pics – that Il76 was RA76950 and having seen it in Vienna last Friday apparently bringing back an A330 engine that had ‘lunched’ itself in China somewhere (Shangha maybe)
Thanks for the kind comments.
Jamie – the A330 is at rotation on take off not landing – would have liked to have gotten some touchdown shots but the other runway was in use.
