Not me but a work collegue – MK1 eyeball to spot the fact that a family member had swopped the card over – opps
Apparently it was due to a lack of engineering staff at SOU. With the reduction in BA routes the BA eng staff have been removed so no cover for the BMI aircraft.
The fact that Flybe will also start the route on the 14th may also have been a consideration.
Both were at Stansted Saturday & Sunday
thanks for the replies – all sorted now
If anybody is interested then the South Hampshire Historic Aviation Society is having a lecture by Dick Stratton on Wednesday 6th September. He was the flight engineer on the Princess during its development and having heard him before, it will be a fascinating evening.
Not unusual for the BBC – saw one a few days ago relating to a chemical spill in a local river that described the area as a Sight of Special Scientific Interest.

Andrewm,
you would think so but as SOU only has 3 or 4 stands that the aircraft will fit into without encroaching on taxiway, anything is possible. This is the airport where the tower is not tall enough to see all of the ramp.
The patience of a saint is required at any sort of event if you hope to get pictures without people ‘in the way’. Perhaps he did not realise that it was the pilot of said aeroplane rather than just a ‘rivet counter’ and 10mins can be a long time when you know that taking a photo only takes a few seconds.
only once – Palma to Gatwick – Jan 1970 or 71 (i think as I was only 4 or 5) the only thing I can remember is being delayed for 7 hours due to fog and the hessian type linning being torn.
Rumoured to be in SOU on 13th September for tests etc (making sure it fits) and entering service soon after on Edinburgh / Glasgow routes
Arm waver,
good to meet you on Saturday – turnout was better than I had hoped for considering the weather (both forecast & actual) but I hope the event did not loose too much money for the PFA. Perhaps the move from July was not such a good idea?
A couple of the most ‘iconic’ for me would be the monk who killed him by putting a tyre over his head and setting light to it. Another would be the young girl running towards the photographer – both from Vietnam war era.
Alternatively the image of the student in front of the tank in Tianamen square is very powerful.
As an aside – do black & white pictures have more impact ? when considering an iconic image.

and people called the A380 ugly!
Am assuming the tail opens to allow loading so hope they have a strong lock on that especially if the whole aircraft (rather than just flight deck area) is to be pressurised.
