I was involved in the move of a PBY a couple of time – take wings off, stick the bits on 3 low loaders and away we went.

just another ‘lets bash airbus’ thread – am getting tired of these threads especially as the originator is usually the same person.
Trip to French airforce show at Chateanudune & French navy show at Landiveasu on same weekend. Got on ferry at Portsmouth and we just sat for several hours (boat had a mech problem) Eventually left some 6 hours late meaning that after arriving we just managed to get to the AF show before it closed. Long drive to hotel which was again very quiet with no food etc available. Up early the following day to go to Landviseau in the pouring rain – nothing moved all day and spent it shivering in a hangar.
Also had the coach break down in Amsterdam which meant waiting for a man to fix it. Got on / off ferry ok but on the M20 one pax had a seizure and we waited on hardshoulder for ambulence to collect. Got held up in a queue after an RTA in front. A few miles further down M3 another RTA which did clear after a while but the car in front and by that time overheated / expired so we had to push that one out of the way before we could move – 6 hours from Dover to Southampton
not exactly rvsm are they 🙂
Anna,
according to the airracing website – G-RAIG was being flown by Alistair Allen
How about a better method of brake cooling after an RTO or even a long taxi – if temps get too high then the only option is to wait and possibly cause a delay. (I think Airbus has fans as an option but it does not come cheap + the usual weight penalty)
Parking sensors for the ground handling vehicles – how often are aircraft damaged because of a misjudgement by a driver. They are fitted to a lot of cars so it should be possible for them to be fitted to catering / de -icing and or fuel trucks.
Ben,
you need to format the cards in the camera rather than a card reader. The manual will tell you how to do this. I had a Dimage 7 and it was just a question of finding the right menu / sub-menu.
You might want to consider spare batteries / rechargeables or even a battery pack. The D7 was quite power hungry and even a set of 4no Lithium/Iron AA rechargeable would only last about 50 shots (power pack was 4 or 5 times that) I eventually had 6 sets of 4 + 2 chargers – a lot to carry if goaing abroad so the power pack was a much better purchase. (around £50 from USA)
Scotairways might have a codeshare but will not accept baggage for onward KLM flights.
People will go with the cheapest which will put Flybe ahead of Bmi and Scot. Flybe also start earlier than Bmi (September instead of October) so will also give them an advantage.
Would manufacturers really want to be adding all the weight for something that would only be used in an emergency. The only reason it would need to be developed would be if the regulatory authorities deemed it essential (like escape slides etc) and made it a legal requirement.
The use of a large parachute could also make any emergency worse in that it may cause ‘weather cocking’ and possible make the aircraft loose any directional control that it may have.
AA MD11 from Tokyo to San Jose mid 90’s 50 pax.
ANA 747-400D – Tokyo – Sapporo in 2004 – 500+ pax
Good news but I just hope they can make them run on time. Delays are all to common at SOU particularly if aircraft that are scheduled to arrive late evening are unable to get in before the airport closes. They then have to land elsewhere (usually Hurn) leading to delays to the following day’s early departures which do take a while to recover from. It really goes pear shaped if the Channel islands have a weather problem (usually fog)
So any problems with Airbus and the whole project is deemed to be a failure yet similar / worse problems with Boeing are dismissed as sensationalism.
Rose tinted glasses should not be worn at all times as they may damage your credibility.
(NB it is only a coincidence that this is my 787th post) 🙂
Thanks chaps – like the ‘womble’ shot myself (E170 in case anyone not heard of that nickname)
