Nice shots – did you see / photograph a Flybe Q400 leaving at 5pm G-JEDL as I was on it! (should have left at 2.10pm so a tad late) Will post some of my pics when ready.
First visit to AVP and was impressed with facility, good views, easy to get to etc
not really sure how they are calculated but have just done the same route on the same dates but with different airlines and had a difference of £3.58 on taxes etc even though there was a £140 difference in flight prices. A lcc going to the same destination from a major london airport only has £10 as its tax etc. Do some airlines only pass on a proportion of what they actually get charged?
Locals (me included) will still refer to it as Eastleigh as that is where it actually is.
Maybe rename / dedicate the terminal building to RJM at some point rather than the entire airport.
Martin,
you missed the OO- R114 whose nosewheel was buried up to the top of the tyre. Had to stop engine and pilot + pax get out and with some help were able to lift nosewheel from the furrough it had made.
poor planning to run out of fuel anyway especially if they knew that it was getting low on the previous day. (could not have used much on Friday or Saturday either)
Watching / photographing the aircraft land and taxi in, it seemed to be quite difficult to avoid the soft areas with 1 or 2 getting stuck and needing assistance. Some of the marshalling looked a bit suspect (proper bats might have helped)
The point I’m making here is sometimes its best to shut the heck up
well said – now if only those who persist in starting A v B threads would do the same 🙂
Is it a sign of a failing education system when so many spelling mistakes arise or have people become so reliant on spellcheckers that the need to actually know how to spell is unimportant. I have a drawing on my desk on which the word ‘receive’ is spelt ‘recieve’ in 6 different text boxes, no doubt more will be found in the rest of the documentation.
In the BOAC/BEA days when we actually had aircraft manufacturers producing entire aircraft rather than just the bits, they were strongly encouraged to ‘buy British’. This lead to aircraft being designed such as the VC10 with its good hot/high/short field performance ideal for routes to India / Africa etc. This carried a penalty in terms of economy and made it unattractive to operate in situations when hot/high performance was not critical. This was made worse by the early american jets where runway lengths were increase to accommodate them leaving the VC10 with no real need for hot/high performance and the cost of such performance.
BEA were also guilty of this with the Trident in that it was designed to suit BEA markets rather than a worldwide market.
24 – not seen that on the main ones in a while
