24 – not seen that on the main ones in a while
Have just looked at making a booking for November – flights total £48 but when you add the £53 for airport taxes etc it does make it expensive. Can fly the orange lot from LGW for £48 inc taxes so even adding parking etc it is still worth flying from LGW.
Real shame to see N47FK head west – have had a brief taxi in her after helping to repaint her when she was at Lee on Solent.
Nordjet,
the A380 only has thrust reversers on the inboards because of the risk of ingesting something.
Interesting news but I wonder where the aircraft will park. SOU already has 15 aircraft that stay overnight and only 14 stands.
Have been lucky enough to attend a couple of lectures given by Captain Eric ‘winkle’ Brown ex RN test pilot. As he is a fluent german speaker he was on loan to the Army during the latter stages of WW2 as the advancing troops captured airfields etc.
He recalled an airfield just outside Hamburg where they found a lot of destroyed aircraft but several complete, undamaged Me262’s. He was of the opinion that the retreating forces could not bring themselves to destroy them.
He also recalled a test flight he was doing in an Arado 234 jet bomber – one of the major problems with the coaxial flow engines used by the germans was the short life span (usually around 25 hours before being scrapped or failing) UK jet engines at the time were of the centrifugal type (more reliable) so he had to rely on a) captured techies preparing the aircraft and b) any maintenance records being available. He recalled starting both engines, getting to the end of the runway, opening up the throttles and starting to take off. The aircraft got about 50 yards before 1 of the engines ‘went bang’ taking the wing with it. He estimated that enginer had done 24hours and 50mins running time.
Unfortunately with ‘bean counters’ running companies these days the only figure that matters is the bottom line. Companies rarely instigate a safety mod for a ‘potential’ problem because it costs. Only when the problem has been clearly demonstrated to have caused an accident will governing bodies force companies to do so and this process can take some time.
There is an old saying “if you think aviation safety is expensive, then try having an accident” Any money spent on safety is insignificant compared to what an accident will cost a company.
The only time I ever used a Norton anti-virus it killed my HD! – never again

a) people to move/crush items in the o/h lockers just so they can get their own items in.
b) people who take ages to put item in o/h and continue trying to unpack/repack them whilst standing in up.
c) people who sit in an aisle seat then have to get up to allow people to get to window / middle seat.
d) people who fail to obey cabin crew instructions – had this on EK once but the best was on Garuda – pax during descent got a large bag out of o/h and put it in the aisle (just so he could get off quicker) cabin crew asked him to put it back, he refused, so they took the bag to the back of the place – he was last off!
Yes it does but it is enclosed by glass. I did manage to get a clear spot to shoot from by a set of steps though.
Cheers,
yes – the brake dust does make it a little more interesting.
Viva also did routes to LHR from Madrid for Aerolineas Argentinas as I was on a VIVA 737 on that route
Laker – for my first ever cockpit visit (take off & landing on a day return to Alicante) on a Bac1-11 in 1979 & BCal just because they were a class outfit
yes he did 🙂
