We are a very tolerant society in general – we let almost anybody in, feed them, house them, educate them and some repay us by spreading messages of hate against the west – sorry but enough is enough. We must introduce far stricter controls on who we let into the UK – the fanatics who incite this hatred are not invisible and deport those already here. Abu Hamza is one such fanatic who, because of our tolerance and freedoms is allowed to preach a message inciting a tiny minority to try and destroy those freedoms.
Nice shots – I was there in May and had a great time

Flew into Samos a few years ago on a Monarch 757 – firm landing with lots of reverse / braking. Take off was open up the engines, hold on the brakes until full power reached then accelerate like a scolded cat down a shortish runway (6000ft)
There are a number of people on this forum who regularly turn up at events with the equivalent of a PPL hanging around their necks.
guilty as charged Melvyn 🙂 (well certainly a few hours worth anyway)
Like any group of people who have similar interests you will always find the ones who best fit the image people have of that hobby but the vast majority do not. Many either work in aviation, have taken flying lessons, work as museum volunteers etc
Have no idea though why ‘spotter’s / enthusiasts seemed to be thought of with such contempt by some people when there are plenty of other hobbies that could been deemed equally as odd.
If the only people the rally can attract in any numbers are the ‘enthusiasts / photographers / number crunchers’ then it and the PFA need to have a serious rethink as to which direction the rally (and the organisation) are going.
offensive indeed.
you have also missed my point that if it were not for enthusiasts willing to pay the expensive entry fee then the income the event generated would be far less.
The event was pretty much the same as in previous years with nothing new to attract visitors. As a comparison to last year I had to queue for 25 minutes to get onto the main road – yesterday there were only 5 or 6 cars at the junction – a clear indication that numbers of visitors was considerably less. Even around the static areas there were far less people looking at the aircraft.
Trinny,
I (and others) object to being called a grubby spotter (enthusiast is a less offensive term)- if as you said enthusiasts outnumbered the pilots 5 : 1 then the balance sheet would be much, much worse without them and also indicates that the PFA message is still not getting across. Perhaps people were put off by the last one and decided not to bother along with a dodgy wx forecast (sunday was good but too late by then)
Could have done with better signs as well – first sign was just off the M4 then nothing at all on the A419.
Still think that £20 / per person is a bit steep for what is essentially a ‘fly-in’
