Mark,
great pics from Monino – 2 visits for me, 1 in sunshine, 1 in pouring rain (last year). Lots of my pics on airliners.net which may help with identification of some items and the latest guide booklet is in english. Alternatively post the picture here and see what results.
I remember the dogs, one in particular who though I might make a tasty mid afternoon snack, but was still chained to his kennel.
Pic 3 is a Mil 12 – NATO code name ‘Homer’ (probably because the designer went ‘d’oh’ when he saw what he created) 😉
SOU is not that good for photographers – there is an observation gallery inside the terminal (turn left and up the stairs) but shooting through glass is not always the best option.
There is multi story car park but staying there for more than a few minutes will attract the security who will move you on. you could stay in car but you might need a 2nd morgage to get out.
First 10 mins however are free – just enough time to get to top level, get a pic and get out. (assuming there is anything worth taking a pic of)
At the northern end, towards Eastleigh (runway is 02/20) the Campbell Road bridge can offer some interesting shots although you will need to be careful where you park as the bridge is narrow and quite busy.
as the southern end there is the White Swan pub which can be reached by driving pass the airport keeing the Ford factory on your left, mini roundabout turn left and follow that road, the pub is on the left.
There are a couple of aviation enthusiast groups based locally (Eastleigh, Bishops Waltham, Gosport are 3 I visit) with regular meetings, talks, slide shows etc – if you want any more info then let me know.
There is a PBY sat at Lee-on-Solent just waiting for somebody to book it for airshows etc – it has been there since Nov 2001.
Visitors welcome 😉 (visitors with big bank accounts very welcome) 🙂

As a Brit I say well done to Poland for standing up for what you think is right instead of giving in to the the bully boys of germany.
I just wish our spineless leader would actually put the UK interest first rather than ‘appease’ germany and france.
This situation puts blair in a tricky position – any further discussion will take place at a time much closer to the next general election and the whole eu will again be a big part in that.
I also note that he has now hinted that the population may now get a vote of this subject – probably because he would rather loose a eu vote than a general election.

I also have a copy of that programme – very good it is too.
If Black Knight cannot locate his copy then I could provide 1 or 2 😉
‘Michelle’ by The Overlanders – not saying what year 😉

There are 3-seater microlights – I saw some in Russia at the MAKS show – Astra is the name and there are pics of them on the usual sites.
Agree with all that was said – HK is a great place to visit.
a couple of other things to consider
use the Star Ferry to cross Victoria Harbour – a mini harbour cruise every time
ride the trams on HK island
visit observation area in the Bank of China building – 43rd(i think) floor for a good view.
Is there an observation are in the new tower ? – if so that would be worth a visit, it was still being built on my last visit.
Lantau Island – take the steps from Po Lin monastry to the buddah on top of the hill.
visit the Science museum – Cathay Pacific’s first aircraft – DC3 ‘Betsy’ is there.
looking forward to my next visit sometime soon

Wysiwyg,
I think it is the Staines Trident crash in the mid 70’s that is being reffered to – the cause was never 100% discovered as (in many crashes) a number of things happened in combination to cause a big problem – such as was the Captain (Charles Key) suffering a heart attack during climb out, did the first officer retract the slats too early for the airspeed, was the stick shaker disconnected because it kept givn false info and was considered unreliable etc . Another reason why this crash was never fully undertstood – the aircraft did not have a cockpit voice recorder fitted so the actions of the crew can only be ‘guessed’
You are also correct in mentioning the Bac1-11 as the prototype of this crashed after getting into a deep stall – Mike Lithgow was in command.
My fav is the one about the restoration of a catalina flying boat (only because i am in it) 😉
