RE: SAS
Kabir, your comments about the airline on it’s Indian sector prompt me to comment on another airline that has very different ambiance depending on the sector.
Emirates between London and Dubai, is a totally different Airline compared to Emirates between Dubai and Manila. The first sector is obviously the “cream”, whilst the second, carrying lots of Philippino seamen and domestic workers is definitely considered much lower grade. I find the attitude on this sector quite unforgivable especially as the Philippinos are almost without exception polite, happy, and sober.

RE: planes
I’m with Saab 2000 on this one. 777 because it’s majestic, I love travelling on it, and the TV series on its design and build was so interesting – especially the part where the Boeing worker stuck the first two pieces together! The Trislander because day to day I see, and hear, more of these aircraft than any other.
And in my local paper today, news that Britten-Norman have re-started manufacture with a demonstrator in build, and plans for a diesel engined version.

RE: Forum upgrade
Sorry if I’m being thick, but where in “profile” should my e-mail address be?
RE: Daily Mail Free Flights
I’ll just try that again……..:-(
RE: Daily Mail Free Flights

Thanks Andrew, point taken.

RE: Saras, India’s first passenger jet, unveiled
For me, that is a very pretty aircraft. I’n not technical enough to be able to comment on the propulsion however. Any comments from Wysiwyg?
RE: Alitalia?
When I have used Alitalia, usually Barcelona – Milan, I have been impressed. The MD80 (Alitalia operate more than any other airline? or perhaps European airline?) always seems very clean and tidy, the cabin staff are pleasant, and the food OK!
Let us know how you find it.
Enjoy your holiday.
RE: FlightSim
Thanks very much for taking the trouble to give such a comprehensive run down on the system(s).
Checking the advt for the X-Plane I see that it does not give the version……………….
I will have to wait a few days for my computer (this is on a laptop) to get back from repair, and then I’ll go for a demo download. I’ll come back with my thoughts after that.
Thanks again!
RE: FlightSim
Thanks for that Andrew. Notwithstanding other comments that may appear, at GBP19.95, it might be a good starter.

RE: FlightSim
However,KabirT,……since you brought it up, I just did a little research and the info I found suggested that the IL62 was “unveiled” in Sept62, whilst the VC10’s first flight was on 29 June of the same year.
RE: FlightSim
Oops!
RE: 747 SP
Thanks for that Wysiwyg, we were actually waiting for over an hour before leaving MNL while the Captain tried to find out if there was a tool at Rockhampton. When we eventually got rolling he told us that Qantas Ops had confirmed that the tool was there…………Well, it got the Flight moving!
And for carl727 – I just found a site: http://www.747sp.com
RE: 747 SP
Back in December 2000, when Qantas were using them, we flew from Manila to Sydney via Rockhampton. It was the first,(and possibly last?) time a 747 had visited that fairly small airport.
We stopped there to pick up about 150 Japanese students for the onward flight to Sydney. It was not a straightforward operation, 747 passenger doors are considerably higher than the average medium sized aircraft aren’t they? Did anyone check if the steps would reach? No. Can Japanese students jump that far. No. Solution – put the steps onto a lorry.
The other problem was technical in that , for some reason, due to a fault with Number Three engine, it could only be started with a “special tool”. Was there such a tool in Rockhampton? No. Never mind, there are some clever tractor mechanics there, and one of them helped to get the engine started “by improvising”.
By the way, if you have to share the aircraft with 150 students, hope they are Japanese – totally well behaved and polite!
