RE: A few pics for Saab and Wysiwyg.

Skycruiser, if the Trilander fleet is reduced, its going to change my day to day life! I live on the Isle of Wight quite close to the Needles, and I get to see (and hear) lots of those proper little aircraft esp in the summer.

    RE: Baggage overweight?

Thanks for that Mongu and 777crazy.
Perhaps 777crazy can also guide me further? I have had conflicting advice (from Travel Agent and Airline) regarding the carriage of “Braun Fuel Cells” for ladies hair stylers/brushes. The airlines I would usually be flying with are BA,KLM,LH.
I’d like to be doing the right thing on this.
    Thanks.

    RE: low cost long haul?

Well, to those who say “Yes” to low cost/long haul I would ask if you ever flew to Australia in a Brittania 757? I did and I would never suffer that seating discomfort again. Not even if it was for free.
And as for Virgin, my son regularly flies to USA by Virgin, but on Tuesday last flew BA to Miami. His comments on the flight – “The cabin staff were friendlier, drink(s) before dinner, bottle of wine (not a glass) with dinner, and good food.” Cost £288 return. Guess which airline he’s using next trip?!
I really don’t see how long haul could get much cheaper than it is, providing you check out all the sites and do a bit of forward planning.

    RE: VC-10 Forum

Well,as a soldier,I had a number of flights in Royal Air Force VC10’s, including to and from Singapore. All were enjoyable except for the lack of a glass of wine with the meal.Indeed, on one flight the Loadmaster threatened to have three of us Court Martialled (all three Company Serjeant Majors) because he suspected we had been passing a hip flask around – of course we didn’t!
My best VC10 flight though was a return from an Exercise in Germany in the late 70’s when I was put on a flight back to UK and only after take-off heard an announcement of our arrival time in Manston – but hang on, I want to go to Brize Norton – “Excuse me Loadmaster, but I seem to be on the wrong flight”
“No problem” was the reply, “just stay on board at Manston, we are going back to Brize afterwards. By the way we have a surplus of meals left over, how many would you like between Manson and Brize?”
Well forget the meals, as the only passenger I clearly didn’t prevent the Captain from demonstrating just how steep a climb out is possible when leaving Manston ;I was sat at the front, and my case of German beer which I had placed under the seat ended up a long way back down the aircraft!
Had a great flight as usual, so thanks to all the Royal Air Force guys and gals for looking after us and above all providing a safe service always. (Must tell you one day about landing on the grass strip in Ipoh on the eighth attempt on a misty morning – in a Beverley)
PS. The meals? – just two.
