In which case, I also wish to claim ultra long haul status (Lon-Mnl) :p
And in Genoa, next to the very large Ferry Terminal, a shopping Mall including a major Supermarket – and the Ferry Ticket Office is inside the Mall area so you need to go there for your tickets – clever, no?;)
Goodness me! That was almost as bad as people discussing motorcycles on this forum:p
Anyway, thanks for your comments on SIA – I think consistency is the real point,(checking most airlines on SKYTRAX reveals that). I must say however that there are rarely bad reports of Emirates.
The price I saw for SIA which prompted the question was £440 LHR-MNL.
Never mind, Qatar A330, I’m still inclined your way (but can’t book until early Sept).:)
The Piaggio P.180 Avanti (as discussed in “What the Heck?”
There are a couple of these in what appears to be the military area at Genoa – no obvious markings, but in a flourescent green/yellow c/s.
They really do look and sound a bit different!
Well, you’ll have to pass the Ducati on to your son – because you’ll need to listen to it now and again!
Way to go – keep those feet up!

There are wheels, and there are wheels – What is that machine in your avatar?
Surely, I would think, TCAS has a programmed decision maker dependant on the course being flown by each aircraft? Otherwise, it would be a system relying on which aircrafts TCAS was the first to react (eg I’ll climb, you descend).
Perhaps we can get the answer from one who knows?
Some comment in today’s paper linking the threat to a “lost” (i.e. location unknown) 727 in Africa.
Well Steve, not exactly. It does have a choice of at least six Boarding Gates though!!
And its much bigger than it was when the Spitfire made its maiden flight there:D
Oops! No, sorry Softlad, now we have a communication problem!
For me “knowledge is strength”, which is how I explained to my wife why I was reading ” The Worlds Greatest Aircraft Disasters” during a long haul flight.
My comment about the “dodgy” aircraft referred to the Bergamo situation which evolved after the Aircraft due to make the trip had a problem, and I had to wait until a 146 finished its GCI trip and was sent to get us out of Italy. I’d rather be delayed than be put on an aircraft that was questionable regarding servicability.;)
Yes, that’s accepted. Perhaps I should have taken the other side and congratulated the MyTravel staff for having the courage not to call in a “sickie”! I can imagine the hassle they got.
My initial comment was perhaps initiated by memories of a 4 hour delay in Bergamo this summer when my request to speak to a rep from FlyBe was met by the reply -“There are none”.
Yes, I know I tend to support FlyBe normally but I also accept delays as preferable to flying on a “dodgy” aircraft.
(Hope I’m not digging a hole here!):o
Excellent!!! But my wife didn’t like it – says I have a strange sense of humour.
Yes, Wys, once again you have given us the goods in an excellent sum-up.
Just one nagging doubt though – it’s all very well for members of the Forum (not directed at you) to denigrate “the local drunks”, but I wonder just how well communication was handled by the local ground staff to explain to the passengers just exactly what was happening? Thats not really the Captain’s job is it? Were the ground staff too busy to really communicate, or was there a lack of will to do so?
I might even suggest that there is a part of the Spanish character that is not willing to admit things are going wrong, (and I’m aware that there would have been local Brit employees as well) , and base my comments on my experience of living and working in the Balearics.
Hands up all those who want to fly in the aircraft now I’ve mended it!!!
See The Times today.:D
