    Hi All,

Just for clarity A.R.G.O.S. requested the original post be ‘pulled’ as the story was published prematurely by the Orcadian, naturally I respected their wishes. However the cat appears to be well out of the bag.

    Regards,

    Tim

    Hello Paul,

Early production Martinets carried two of the four way bomb selector switches reference 5D/553, in later production the two apertures were just blanked off. I believe this was a throw back to the Master production but stand to be corrected on this. just out of interest do you have a photo of your panel?

    Kind regards,

    Tim

    Adrian,

Regarding the community trail document, and not wanting to be pedantic, but on page 31 you have a Miles Master II purporting to be a Miles Martinet.

    Kind regards,

Whilst not identical your hatch certainly looks similar to the type fitted by Miles. The image below is of the oil header tank access hatch from my Martinet project and is dimensionally similar. Has any paint fragments survived on the reverse side? On mine the part number is stamped approx 1″ down from the central hinge hole, perhaps clean this area up just in case?

    Bob T,

I thought it was the type fitted to the Miles Martinet, whilst obviously from the same ‘family’ not quite the right type.

Is the Palmer brake gauge marked 756/1 or 9311?

    Bellarine,

    Thanks and PM returned.

I am really pushing my luck but would anyone have a lead on locating a single gravity switch as attached photos?

A quick look has come up with the following: BL539, BM304, BM430 and BM581all of which S.O.C. from 595 Sqn on or around September 1945.

    No.595AAC Squadron

I have checked the ORB and can find no reference to a detachment at Christchurch, however the base is certainly mentioned. On 30.06.45 595 received a number of rather war weary Mk.V’s to provide a ‘faster more authentic’ target, these were soon replaced (in weeks) by Mk.IX’s and Mk.XII’s. Now on the 21.09.45 three Spitfires were flown to Christchurch for disposal with a further three following the next day. Could these be the mystery detachment? However if you have evidence of the Squadron operating out of Christchurch I would be interested in any details.

Somewhere I also have details on H Flight but this may take some time to dig out

    Regards,

    Tim
