So is Jim Beasley? Not in the team anymore then?
Jim Beasley packed it in a couple of years ago and was replaced by Steve Hinton, although I think that due to lack of practice time available they flew as a two ship in 2011 and then made their debut at Chino 2012 with Hinton flying lead in a P38 – well something like that anyway

Hi Sopwith
Might be Spit IX MH603. Would be correct for 1942 (I think)

Wings of the Weird and Wonderful is another great book by ‘Winkle’ along with some of the ‘From the Cockpit’ series – Seafire, Sea Fury and Firebrand
Amazing man
There are/were two with PoF at Chino – check out this old thread with some photos

Anyone know if it is still airworthy or when one last flew?
Hi Ted (hampden98)
So this should be the Mustang you saw
The Titan is in the 55th FG 343rd FS markings of Maj. Edward B. Giller ‘The Millie G’ although with yellow stripe instead of red

MustangsMustangs has a good photo history of N167F including the RAF markings and my favourite scheme Detroit Miss. Seem to remember Bud Anderson signing the undercarriage leg at Duxford one year as well soon after the Olive Drab was applied

Here’s a quick scan of G-HURI from a print I took back in 88 or 89 from memory – looks nice in silver

Just had a chat with a friend and he was told by Mr Bulloch himself that although he flew the 224 Sqn ‘speared shark’ Mk V he was actually officially still with 120 Sqn – so just seconded to 224 Sqn. The stickleback was a Mk I from when he was a Flight Lieutenant with 120 Sqn
Think there are details in the Crowood Press book Consolidated B-24 Liberator (Aviation Series)
Chris
Hi Trumper
I have details for two of the Liberators that Squadron Leader Bulloch flew
A ‘stickleback’ variant was coded H-OH, serial AM929 of 120 Sqn and a large chin (don’t know if it has a proper name) variant coded ‘R’ with a serial BZ721 with 224 Sqn
BZ721 had a speared Shark nose art and I think rocket rails – have seen a picture of this somewhere with him posing by the nose art and I guess standing on the rocket rails.
Looking at the pencil drawings I am not sure the current nose works for either of the above aircraft and you might also want to check out the engine shape as well as I think the earlier ones were more round (as the CAF’s Diamond Lil) and am not sure when they changed to the more oval shape
Hope that helps
Cheers

Hi Daz
I thought it was Walter Eichorn that flew the Hans Dittes ‘Buchon’ in Piece of Cake with Nick Grace and Reg Hallam and in Memphis Belle with Ray Hanna
Cheers
Chris
Hi QP
The Sea Fury ‘From the Cockpit’ book contains these images and suggests VX636 is the likely candidate as well, but after that the trail runs dry, with personnel serving on board who have been contacted not remembering the event. Still a mystery for now I guess
Chris
Found this shot of EE606 arriving at DX as well as another shot of the flight line
Regarding the Buchon pilots we have Mark Hanna, Walter Eichhorn and probably Reg Hallam then
H98 – The Boscombe Down show was in 1990 so a year after Charles Church was lost in EE606
Chris
Thanks for the responses
89 sounds about right. Think I had my Canon SureShot then
BK – soon as you mentioned Reg Hallam I am sure he actually flew into Duxford for a show in the Charles Church MkV
So probably Reg Hallam, one of the Hanna’s (Mark I think) and maybe Hoof in the Spits and Ray, Walter Eichhorn and one other in the Buchon’s. Was Dave Southward flying 109’s then?
Chris
TFC Bearcats
Dug out this print of the TFC Bearcats and did a quick scan. Always liked that Red Rippers scheme
Will try and scan some of the other fleet later
Chris
or Upper Heyford????
