Alconbury? Still active in 88
Chris
Think a few Spit XIV’s went through TFC on their way to a new life overseas – never regulars with the UK based fleet as far as I can remember
One XIV went to Tim Wallis in NZ went through TFC and another to Kermit Weeks??? Did G-Fire as well on its way to Bob Pond? Probably some ex Charles Church/Dick Melton airframes included in the list
The Reynard Racing MKVIII lived at DX for a few years in the TFC Hangar around 1990. Did TFC temporarily own that before it set sail to the USA?
Thanks for clearing up the Yak situation Yak11 – I remember one of the conversions sitting out on the flightline in bare metal one year – probably at Flying Legends
Chris
They had a 2nd Bearcat for a few years in the mid ‘90’s and pretty sure both Mk XIV’s flew with TFC as well during this period
So based on memory and other postings we have below – for now
P40 Kittyhawk (GA-S) (now with Hangar 11 at NW)
Bearcat – still with TFC
Bearcat – from WoGB for 1or 2 years and then to USA?
Corsair – still with TFC
P51 Mustang (Moose/Candyman) – now with OFMC as FF
P47 Thunderbolt (No Guts) – now is USA
Hellcat – still with TFC
P63 – lost on return from France ‘90?
P63 – lost at BH 2001
Spitfire IX (21-T) – now is USA
Spitfire XIV (JE-J) – still with TFC
Hurricane XII (XR-T) – now with HAC
Tigercat – now is USA
P-38 Lightning – lost at DX ‘96
B-25 Mitchell (Grumpy) – now is USA
Skyraider – now with Kennet at NW
Yak 11 – converted to Yak 3 with OFMC example??
Wildcat – still with TFC
Spit XIV (High back) – Think it was with TFC mid ‘90’s, then to France and then back to TFC? Then off to the USA
Did they have a P39 before Brooklyn Bum?
Chris
Couple of nice flying shots on these links

The only time I would have seen G-FIRE would have been the Biggin Hill displays in the early ’80’s. Who would have displayed the Spit then???
Chris
Found this image on wiki. G-Fire and Chris Bevan?

Also did a crop on the exhausts stubs – look pretty white
Chris
Thanks Jock for so many years of enjoyment at BH – Think my first show was in ’65 aged 4 and went to the last one in 2010. A legend without doubt

A most enjoyable thread taking me back to my first airshow experiences at Biggin Hill. Here’s a few more of mine, this time from the other end of the time frame, Duxford 2005 with MH434, Ray and Alister Kay. And agree with ‘The Bump’ regards Nigel Lambs ‘valley salute’. Biggin Hill, MH434 and the airshow final. So, so special.

Here’s a couple more
Ray, Mark and (?) arriving in style at West Malling and then performing a great tail chase on a preview day at the Great Warbirds show. Think this all that actually happened from memory due to cross winds at the airfield. I remember Ray landing what looked like ‘through’ the blast pens so guess there was a grass strip available somewhere down the far end? The other shot back at home base – early to mid ‘90’s
Happy days indeed
Chris
Had a rummage through my old prints last night and came up with this selection
The Mustang is from the West Malling, ’89 or ’90 and as good a place as any I guess to watch the flying from, the Corsiar might be WM as well but maybe Alconbury ‘90?
Spit is at DX but not sure on the Yak11, North weald maybe? Again around ’89 or ’90
Chris
