100sqn also operate aircraft alloocated to JFACTSU
Joint Forward Air Control Training and Support Unit (JFACTSU) at Leeming so that’s their badge on the fin.
Some photo’s of XX265 bottom of http://www.targeta.co.uk/squadronaction_100.htm
good to see the A400M in the air at last.
Just wondering does anyone have any views whether the RN should buy there own hawks
for only 12 to 15 aircraft it wouldn’t be worth the outlay, we [FRADU] know when ours will be going out of service & as they don’t need to carry pylons or weapons, any RAF Hawks[which ours are] that replace out current fleet will be more than upto the job, RN buying it’s own fleet was mooted years ago just before the hunter/hawk changeover, but cost killed that idea off & RAF aircraft were available. all UK Hawks are now under the Hawk IOS operated by BAe Systems [enginnering/design authority] & the airworthiness stays with MoD as a civil company cannot hold the UK military aircraft airworthiness certification.
good to see XW530 again, I was on Bucc majors & did the last overhaul on it before they were retired.
That’s a superb photo of 337, one of my jets from FRADU.
315 & 165 used to be FRADU airframes before we did the last big fleet changeover. I’ve flown twice in 315’s rear seat.
I hope your gear was waterproof! Your little Schopf was popular that afternoon……:)
That’s me with the black wolly hat on,standing directly in front of the Hawk,
we have 2 of those new tractors, there OK, but will only take 2 in the cab, where our older douglas taskmaster could carry 4 easily, makes the Schopf a pain when we are moving aircraft to the paintshop or detuner for engine runs.
Lt Cdr Matt Whitfield’s mentor on the CVIX was its former display pilot Brian Grant, so I think he deserves a bit of recognition for his part in Matt’s blossoming display career 🙂
Hopefully Matt will get to fly the RNHF Sea Hawk this year also subject to serviceability.
I know Brian Grant too, he used to fly the FRADU Hunters from Yoevilton before we [FRADU] changed to Hawk, & he became the unit manager/chief pilot when we moved to Culdrose.
Brian was flying the Gnat at Culdrose air day.
weather was really bad, rained all day till around 5 then started to clear, we [the hawks] didn’t fly except for 1 in from Yoevilton & he returned in a FN100 a/c aabout 4pm, waste of a working day for us ground crew, we were just hanging about waiting for the weather to clear & then after the guys crewed in, their bit of the FN100 flypast & display was cancelled.
The next days out for the FlyNavy livery aircraft is the Navy day @ Devonport on 5th & 6th Sept, no more after that. fairly sure they aren’t doing Bournemouth, but plans could change.
I know Matt Whitfield, he’s one of the Instructors on NFSF at Yoevilton, they use our aircraft, saw him yesterday to, didn’t know he was flying the Sea Vixen though.
Yeah I bet you have more work now have all 7 flown with each other yet? I just hope we get to see RN Hawks at Bournemouth Airshow maybe in a flypast with either 2X FRA Falcon 20
or the Sea Vixen which I hear is being flown by a RN pilot this year is he one of you hawk boys?Regards
James
Not one of our pilots, all ours are EX- RN or RAF guys.
not had all 7 up togetrher as a formation, 4 up & 1 on flyable spare tomorrow at Culdrose air day & the other 2 on static with a FRA Falcon.
was quite good this afternoon, good bit of sunshine & good high cloudbase, wind was a bit strong though.
I’ll keep an eye out for you, me well hard to describe, tall, going bald and holding a long lens 😉
Seriously, I am taking the day off work and travelling down from RAF St Mawgan, I am in the FAA and gutted that I have to pay full price…any other day I can walk straight in!
Hopefully see you guys there!
All the best
Si
get in before 8am if you have a culdrose car pass
some great shots there.
