Oh…so when I said this earlier…you all jumped at me with knives and guns…becasue obviously I was fabricating it becasue Vojna would never report such a thing. Yet it seems to be the case…
Hmmm….
And…the upgrade is just IFFs…as many have been saying for along time..instead of SMT-1, 2, 3, Su-30s, PAK-FAs or Klingon Warbirds.
Funny how things turn out…
You always state what one person says to be the opinion of all the Serbian members of this forum.Have ink and i stated something like that? We have concluded that 10 million € that have been allocated for Mig-29s will be used for a limited ovehaul only to make them airworthy again(and for An-26).
If someone mentioned an SMT,that was a view in the future, not before 2010 in any way.
If it pleases you we will say you are right, that you are always right,we know nothing. But please stop policing our threads with answer to every single thing someone says.
I know that Hungary is going to retire its fleet of Mig-29 in the year 2009,but i do not think they consider us as a friendly country, especially due to the northern province of Vojvodina.
As for Bulgaria and Romania, they might provide us with Mig-29s,only if it is cheaper for them to give it to us then to scrap them, just like Germany did with Poland.
Isnt it a photoshoped picture?
i have never heard of that airplane.it looks like someone used F-15 as a base for this fiction.
I always thought it looked more like French Rafale because of the air intakes. At least the early ones. Havent seen any pictures of “YU supersonic” or “Novi Avion” after 1991
In this picture,it does indeed look like Rafale. Also chech out the French air to air missiles. But i have seen others however, where it reminds me more of Gripen.
Corection in translation:
The Russians recently performed a similar upgrade with Egypts SA-3s, though that included ripping out all the old wiring and replacing most of it with modern electronics and mounting the launchers on the back of a truck to improve mobility.
Thanks for the correction!
The upgrade on our systems was performed in the 1996 as i recall. Soon on one website a video of the system will be posted.
I have made an Italeri model of the airplane in 1/72 scale about 10 years ago. It has impressed me ever since.
I don’t think any will care. The Europeans don’t seem to care if US and Russian systems are introduced. In fact they don’t even seem to care that tyhey will be undermining their own aviation industry by acquiring the JSF. So 12-16 JF-17 shouldn’t really cause a problem, especially as they are being acqyuired by a non-NATO, non-EU country (assuming Serbia doesn’t join).
But I still think that the JF-17 is no-go. From what I’ve read it has about 80-85% capability of an F-16 Block 40. That means it’s on par with mid-1980’s fighters such as the current SiCG MiG-29’s.
I am not sure how friendly China and Serbia are. But I have a sneaking suspicion they’re not as friendly as Russia and Serbia are.
I would not go with JF-17 as for some reason,a question of spare parts and tehcnological support worries me. Also, our Army is planning to join NATO sometimes,at least as they say, and therefore airplanes of Chinese origin are not being considered.
I think the Mig-21’s carry just the R-13 and R-60, no R-73.
My mistake,R-13s and R-60s it is!
The question is whether or not the Chinese would cooperate with a westernised JF-17. At any rate, why not try and get some of the surplus Gripens from Sweden now? You’ll be set for the next 20-25 years, fully NATO compatible should Serbia decide to eventually go that route, and have a nice little modern multirole fighter jet.
Gripens would be nice and they would last for a long time i am sure, but unfortenutely the money for one squadron of these airplanes is still not there.I do not know how much did Czech Republic and Hungary lease their airplanes for?
As someone already stated, the Sweedes might not agree to selling weapons to Serbia due to Balkans wars. I am wonderign however if there was any cooperation on Gripen with Serbia in the 1980s,as Novi Avion project looked extremely similar?
Right…this is what they’v been saying for a long time now…
So what if they have been saying it for a long time now? What miitary plans are is one thing and what actually happens all depends on how the politicians lead the country and how they make the decisions about money expenditures. The military has made their accessment of what they need to perform all the tasks set forth in the future.I see nothing wrong in stating that,no matter when it will be materialised.
You see, comments like that,we can absolutely do without. There is no further need to discuss about it.
This might be of interest to someone. A schematics of Orao’s chaff and flare switchboard and a chaff and flare drawing.
Serbian AF Mig-29 cockpit. The aircraft is parked at one of the dispersal areas and notice the opened radar radome due to maintenance.
Here are two more very nice photos of J-21s of ex-Yugoslavia.
Soon i will be uploading some cool videos of Yugoslav and Serbian Air force on an FTP server that the moderators of airserbia.com have provided me with and i will let you know when its all done. There will be two videos from Zeljava AB,Mig-21s and Mig-29s taking off,Air Defence Missiles and a command and control facility etc…
Djnik,
Great pics!
What are the details of the MiG-21 overhaul? Damn it! I hate being so far away from things…
Well as the for the Mig-21 overhaul,it will be conducted at Moma Stanojlovic facility at Batajnica AB. Therefore, domestic potentials will be used and the overhaul will comprise of an engine overhaul, structre checks and necessary parts replacements whose resources have expired. I am not sure what will be done with radars but knowing that our Mig-21s are primarely armed with R-73s and R-60s which are IR homing, these might not need to be improved. Mig-21s are directed to their targets by means of ground radars that as you read above are being upgraded as well.
As you can notice in the photos, there is even one silver painted Mig-21 still wearing partially the ex-Yugoslav markings. This machine is stripped of it top paint coat ,and as i presume, chosen for an overhaul as it was stored and its airframe has a rather low flight hours on it.
