Komandant avijacije pukovnik Dragan Katanić o trenutnom stanju u srpskom vazduhoplovstvu

    Neispravna svaka druga letelica

Text mentions that last year,Serbian pilots flew on average 6-7 hours while this year they will fly from 20-30 hours.

Interesting fact is that the overhaul of Mig-29s will cost $25 Million, not $10Million as they said before. The first overhauled Mig-29 UB will come early next year and the rest 4 by the end of 2007.

Mig-21bis R is going to stay in service after 2010. This is what they said. All other Mig-21bis will be withdrawn by that year. The R airframes have low flying hours, are regularly taken care of and are therefore in very good shape.

As far as i know, only one An-26 is going to get an overhaul in Russia, along with the Mig-29s.

There were plans in mid 1990s to upgrade our Sa-6 systems, and this was done domestically.Everything was ready for installation of these upgrades but a decision came to sell these upgrades to Egypt. How well the missiles with upgrades would have performed in ’99 ,we will never know. Our Sa-6s only got the new fuses and warheads in the same time period,in a shipment from Russia.

Now that Lybia is not under sanctions anymore,i am of the opinion that they could be very good partners for G-4 production and upgrade. They need such an airplane, they have the funds and we are in good relations.

What about the Orao? Any news on how long these aircraft will stay in service?

I think that Orao will be pulled out of service by 2015 and maybe even 2010. Orao is underpowered and there will be no need for such a specialised ground attack aircraft. There is a bigger chance for G-4 Galeb to stay in service, get overhauled and upgraded,as it can be used for both training and ground attack and it is a double seater!

This text basically mentions that Mig-29s will have to last untill at least 2015,when a squadron of new multi-role airplanes will be procured. The money for overhaul of Mig-29s will be obtained by selling surplus military objects.Mig-21s are going to be retired by 2010 and therefore 5 Mig-29s will be the only thing protecting the skies untill 2015.

It mentions that F-16,Mig-29,Gripen and Eurofighter will be considered, although i am of the oppinion that the last one is extremely expensive for us and is unrealistic.

“There is already a thread with these photos!”

What thread (since you seem to want to keep it a secret, I’ll guess… that 500 page “Russian Navy” one)?

And of course, once a pic is posted, it can never be posted again?

Yes it is the Russian Navy thread!

And i wasnt accusing anyone,i was merely stating the fact.

So I did some research and the really cool looking ones were developed overseas in the US, UK, or France. Did we develop any under license. I saw that the cluster munitions first began being used in 1984 and were being used by the USAF in 1986. So how many could we have got in 5 years?

We did not develop any ourselves or under licence. We simply bought the Bl755 from UK in the 80s,just like the AGM-65 Mavericks from the USA and Duranal from France. I am unsure of the quantity but it they have been seen on numerous different airplanes at different airbases,so i suppose it is significant.

Can anyone name for me the weapons laid out in front of the Orao and Galeb aircraft? From left to right would be nice. I think that’s a maljutka in the middle, and a maverick on the far left, but that 2nd to left bomb looks very interesting. By the way, I wish they would have at least painted some kind of camo scheme on those aircraft for these photos. They could have att least pretended that our airforce isn’t in the sh*tter right now. Maybe some SAM units behind the aircraft or in the grassy areas. Some kind of show of force would have been nice. Why do we as Serbs do everything backwards?

    G-4 from left to right:

    1) Unknown bomb-please help
    2) Bl755 cluster bomb
    3) Unguided missiles 57mm
    4) Unguided missiles 128mm
    5) FAB (Fugasna Avio Bomba) 250kg
    6) Mk-82 bombs

    Orao from left to right:

    1) AGM-65 Maverick
    2) Bl755 cluster bomb
    3) Unguided missiles 57mm
    4) Unguided missiles 128mm
    5) FAB 250 (Fugasna Avio Bomba) 250kg
    6) FAB 100 (Fugasna Avio Bomba) 100kg
    7) On the far right you can see Duranal anti-runway bomb

I do not know the exact number of Mi-24s in Russia, but it should be at least 700 . Now,if the Mi-28 production goes at that rate,it seems highly unlikely they will replace them fully.

Just wondering had the Yu Avion Novi combat aircraft come into fruition what designation and name be given to it. Were there plans to arm it with French AAMs ?

Had to ask out of curiosity.

The airplane was only in design stages before the war broke up in ex-Yugoslavia,therefore no name has been designated yet and no armmanet plans have been considered. I know however where your question about French AAM comes from, probably from the 3D drawings of the airplane.
