Why can’t I play it? Strange because I can play other .avi files – just not this one. Very annoying.
Get VLC media player. It plays everything:)
how about Mig-25R for reconnaissance. We would only need like one to take care of the whole business in 5min.
sorry, couldn’t resist. :-))I used to have few articles with pictures from early nineties from”Aerosvet” magazine describing some interesting Yugoslavian UAVs desings. Does anyone have quick reference/pics to those plans. Maybe they are displayed now at Batajnica Museum?
PS. I’ll look it up if I still have when I get home from work.
There is an UAV project developed by UTVA.If you want i can mail you what i have. It was also displayed on the last Militrary fair in Belgrade.
Hmmm…I think the Albanian Air Force should make a good mix, over 20pieces L-159 and maybe 10 F-16 from Netherlands or Turkey(the cheap one, Block 30)
Maybe in 10 years, just like the other countries in the Balkans. There is no money for any of us to afford such “luxuries”. But by that time F-16 Block 30 will be too old. However L-159 is a nice choice,a handy little airplane.
I think Serbia should down size the mig 21 fleet and convert another 10 into Reconiscess and also for Partoling.
We do not need so many reconaissance Mig-21Rs,esepcially in the time when UAVs are getting more popular, cheaper to opearate and can fly for longer periods at a time.
Well just because hes making childlike arguments, that doesnt automatically make him Albanian. Judging by the way he was speaking serbian and the pictures he is posting here, i could say that almost certainly hes not Albanian.
The fact is that he cannot speak Serbian.I already pointed to his false grammar.
And you see how he tends to provocate in his posts. I guess some kids were left out by the evolution. A fine line between a man and a monkey.
I will leave it to the moderators to determine. They have been notified.
very funny djnik, uh trying a new tactic. LOL, ROFL
Don’t worry, the moderators have been made aware of your (short lasting)presence.
Sorry if you got insulted Scanderbeg but please go to the Serbian air force thread and check out what “theserbian” wrote and please tell me that it is not Gon4z for example or some other Albanian making provocations. This kids play is spoiling the threads and he will be reported to the moderators straight away.
In the meantime, here’s a little colour for the turboprop fans…
Wings of Storm – Croatia
Roulettes – Australiastay tuned… South Africa’s Silver Falcons are coming soon
Very nice work!
Is it possible for you to draw the ex-Yugoslav Air Force Sabre in all 3 views (sideways, top, bottom) as i would like to use it as a reference to building a model of it?
Thanks a lot!
Who said that Serbs were poorly trained? Iraqi pilots may have had some issues but who said that they were poorly trained either?
BTW Is there any source that has archived the evidence (including but not restricted to gun camera footage, HUD camera footage, wreckage, official admissions of losses etc) for each and every A2A claim that the USAF made during IIPGW?
Serbian pilots were not poorly trained, they had a lot of experience gainded over a number of years. However, they didnt have 100 % functional airplanes to fly with. That is all there is to say.
The US has acknowledged the loss of an F-117 to a SAM and I think even the Serbs said it was due to an SA-3.
SA-3 with a visual tracking system (upgraded in 1996). Got a nice video of it.
Yeh, old airframes is the main issue.
I always thought Yak-130 would be great for Serbian AF in addition to few dozen Galeb G-4Ms.
Mig-29M2 would be a perfect multi role airplane.
just my 2cents
p.s. Djink
vala imas strpljenja sa thesrbinom. Bas sam se lepo nacitao.
Sou program :-))
Those would be nice indeed, but with a steady flow of money:) I was always an optimist, but one has to set his limits somewhere.
P.S: Naravno da nemam strplenje jer to mora da je neki “shipac” sa juga koji hoce da nas provocira. Sve u svemu lupeta gluposti. Deca, sta ces.
This makes a lot of sense.
Perhaps the MiG-29 can be used in conjunction with the MiG-21 for airspace policing. So merge the two interceptor squadrons into 1 and used the MiG-29’s as a form of lead fighter, while the MiG-21 acts to keep pilots current on supersonic aircraft.
The Mig-21s and Mig-29s are already merged into a signle Squadron at Batajnica AB due to the low number of the latter and them not flying at the moment. The Mig-29 pilots, when flying at all, do that in the Mig-21s nowdays.
Because a squadron with a mere 5 airframes is nearly useless. It would be impossible to keep all 5 operational as one has to take account for maintenance requirements. It would also mean that only a small pool of pilots can be actually kept current on this aircraft.
I know that squadron of 5 airframes is useless, but 20 old Mig-21s arent very usefull as well, and are not safe to fly. Bascially we have to wait and see what will happen and then comment on the MODs decision.
Also in Air Forces Monthly, it was said the one of the MiG-29’s was in especially bad condition. Is this true? And if it is, is this airframe recoverable or is it only good for cannibalizing spares?
You can check out the photos of Mig-29s stored at Batajnica AB that i posted at the beginning of this thread and try and see yourself. They are all in different states of “bad condition” 🙁
Also djnik do you know how long the Orao’s are meant to be kept in service?
I do not think Oraos are ment to be kept in service for much longer. Althugh there is a number of new never used fuselages at Moma Stanojlovic facility that could be used to replace the old ones if the money is available. But the problem of old electronics and other spare parts still stays.

Is this Topol-M? The reason I ask is because there was a picture floating around a while back of what appeared to be a Topol launcher but with a bigger than normal YELLOW missile pod. Whatever THAT was this is it.
Excellent video Sferrin!
That is one of the normal surplus Topol missiles that got converted to sattelite launcher.
2006 April 25, 20:46 Moscow Summer Time (16:46 GMT): (planned time: 20:47:16) A converted ballistic missile delivered an Israeli remote-sensing satellite, after a blastoff from a launch site in the Russian Far East. The Start-1 launch vehicle, carrying the EROS-B1 satellite, blasted off from a mobile launcher deployed at the Svobodny.
The payload entered a nominal 508-kilometer circular polar orbit with the inclination 97.3 degrees toward the Equator approximately 16 minutes after the launch. The solar panels of the satellite had been successfully deployed some 30 seconds later.
The mission of the EROS-B1 received more attention from the media that those of its predecessor, in light of recent threats to Israel from the Iranian government. The world press emphasized that the Israeli government, as one of the major customer of the satellite’s data, could use it to monitor Iranian military activities, including its nuclear and missile programs.
The launch was delayed from the fourth quarter of 2005 and March 21, 2005.
If the purpose is air patrol…then 4 MiG-29s are not only insufficient at that…but also inefficient at that. A force of MiG-21s which you can have more of…would be much more useful in that role.
Those MiG-29s will be kept flying only for prestige reasons I think…there’s no real reason to spend money on 4 airframes and a trainer…
Mig-21s that we have are at least 10 years older airframes than Mig-29s. The airframes can last only so long before the material becomes to buckle under stress, corrode etc. And most,if not all Mig-21s are stored in the open and exposed to weather conditions. It is no wonder they said that they want to retire Mig-21s by 2010.
Mig-29 can carry a better radar than Mig-21 which for an interceptor is very important and has more external pylons .Its two engines make it more reliable. Look at the other nations that have adopted twin engines for their airplanes (Rafale,Eurofighter…).
I do not think that prestige is the reason as the Air Force would rather have a better airplane than one purely for prestige. There is no reason to show off,and no money of course. They just want to stick with the best they’ve got,and thats Mig-29.
Soviet Underground Submarine Base
Until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 Balaklava was one of the most secret towns in Russia. 10km south eas of Sevastopol on the Black Sea Coast, this small town was the home to a Nuclear Submarine Base.
Almost the entire population of Balaklava at the time worked at the Base, even family members could not visit the town of Balaklava without good reason and identification. The base remained operational after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991 until 1993 when the decommissioning process started and the warheads and low yield torpedos were removed. Then in 1996 the last Russian Submarine left the Base, and now you can go on Guided tours round the Cannel System, Base and small Museum, which is now housed in the old weapons stowage hangers deep inside the hillside.
Great find Austin!
Does anyone know how this facility compares in size to the one in Sweeden?
