But will the 5 Serb MiG’s get this level of upgrade or will it be just an upgrade of basic avionics such as transponders and radios?

They will get an overhaul with minor upgrade of the transponders and avionics. Nothing big. I wrote about it in the “Serbian Air force present and future prospects”.

As i said before,it is unnecessary to open 3 threads on the topic.

Is that place still operational and if it is what can it house also im wondering how is the process going for the lasta 95 or 96 and when its built do you thing the airforce will replace there Utva 75s and buy the lasta 95 or 96.

The base itself was repaired from the ’99 attacks(you can see it on Google earth too although i suppose photo was taken couple of years ago-look at the photo below). During the same year,it had Oraos based there with Bl755 cluster bombs, waiting ready for action in the case of a NATO ground offensive. There were also plans to move Air Force training units there ,but this was cancelled due to base’s altitude of 1000 meters which brings frequent bad weather and fog. Nowdays there are plans to make it into a mixed military/regional airflield which is quite possible as there is even the control tower and long enough runway.

I have no idea what is happening to the Lastas. If there is money, they will be brought into service.

Ponikve dispersal AB. The runway was repaired soon after the conflict in ’99 and as you can see there are many unscratched HAS.

    djnkik,

Awesome photos of the Yugoslavian Air Force! I have a question about the current status of the surviving MiG-29 fleet. A few months back Air Forces Monthly reported that the MiG-29s were being returned to service and overhauled by Russia. Is the overhaul complete and the Fulcrums back to flying? And if so have they received any upgrades to like the MiG-29SMT? Thank you for sharing these unique pictures with us.

Unfortenutely Mig-29s are still stored at Batajnica AB at some of the dispersed HAS. You can find photos in one of the threads about Serbian air force, that got closed in the meantime. None of them are currently airworthy.

There are plans to overhaul them in Russia, not upgrade the,as of next year.We will see how will this materialise.

One of them got taken out of storage, during the visit of two USAF f-16s and was presented along with other airplanes of the Serbian AF to the US Ambassador in Serbia Micheal Polt.

If I am reading above article correctly ,especially part that is saying “safety, logistics and maintenance, pilot training, and search and rescue ” it looks that Serbian Air Force will be equipped with US combat aircrafts , most likely F-16 and most likely date of their introduction will be sometimes in 2008/2009 and that wail nicely fit with previous announcements that MiG-21 will be pulled out of service by 2010.
Now there is interesting question ..what will happen with planed refurbishment of current MiG-29 and purchase of additional MiG-29.Are we going to have situation that Serbian Air Force will operate both types for some period of time.(one squadron of MiG-29 and one squadron of F-16)

I already made a thread about Serbian Air Force. Its unnecessary to create more threads for each subject.

Anyhow, what tells you they will get F-16s in 2008/2009?There is no money for that.

If everything goes according to plan 5 Mig-29s will be sent to Russia for overhaul as of next year and in the meantime the only fighter aircraft will be the Mig-21s. I am not aware of any plans to purchase additional Mig-29s in the near future.

And for the serbian,if we dont have ties with USA,do you propose we get Mig-25s and Mi-6s as you said in your earlier posts?

Isn’t MOMO mostly ready to support those fulcrums anyway? I forgot about the simulators…it would be very conveniant to have 1 or 2 of those.

Yes,Mig-29s can be overhauled at Moma Stanojlovic facility.I was talking about acquiring the support equipment for a squadron of F-16s plus the weapons and training the personel.

Anyhow,i do not think we obtained any simulators for those Migs.

yeah maybe beacuse most of the techniacs are only familiar with Russian Technolgy and Traning can cost money.

I have to add that the support equipment costs quite a bit of money as well.
