Well lets hope that Iranian president can use at least one digit of his IQ and realise what would happen to his country if he used nukes against Isreal.

I am of the opinion that MAD is a rather good method of keeping peace,as neither county would be willing to make the first move knowing the consequences awaiting.

The only countries with long range bomber aviation are Russia and the US- and the US has been proving for years that they’re extremely useful. Where’d you get the idea they’re “going the way of battleships”?

Exactly. B-52 has proven this the best!

Erm … “even worse”? As for the Tu-160, equip it with Kh-15 SRAMskis. That’s all it needs.

Can Tu-160s radar detect also sea targets? If so i dont think there would be a problem ,after minor modifications ,for it to launch Kh-15s.

If Kilos are hiding close to shore they would have the support of land based anti ship missile batteries and air defence.I do not think that US Navy ships would wander too close to Iran’s shore and especially the submarine warfare Orion’s at low altitude.

Can the Tu-160s also be used in the anti-shipping role as the Tu-22Ms?

How many have actually been shot down to date?

The US military has lost at least 47 helicopters in Iraq, at least 26 of them because of hostile fire.

Some redundancy has also been built into the communication channels. In addition to mobile land and air-based relay stations, the nuclear C3 network also includes the Perimetr missile system which may be used to transmit launch commands to the nuclear forces. The Perimetr system uses missiles based on retired ballistic missile types (the most recent variant, the Perimetr-RTs, reportedly uses missiles based on the Topol ICBM, while earlier variants used missiles based on the Pioner IRBM and UR-100 ICBM) which would be launched upon the issue of nuclear attack orders and transmit these orders during their 20-50 minute flight over ICBM basing areas. Some consideration was given to enabling the Perimetr system to operate in an automated mode. Following a missile attack warning, Perimetr missiles could be set to launch automatically after a set period of time unless they received a second message stopping the countdown. Although this mode of operation would have provided further insurance against a decapitating strike, it was not adopted due to concerns over unauthorized nuclear launches in the event it proved impossible to stop the countdown.

US also has missiles that have their warhead replaced by electronics. They are used however to send launch orders to the SSBNs.I thik these missiles are of Minuteman III type.

I wonder if it would be possible to somehow put a single Shkval like torpedo that Iran developd on this airplane? It would make more sence if torpedo had a range of more than 5-10 km lets say and if it was quided.
