Maybe RAF thinks that US will not release the newest AMRAAM model technology to them, just like they are doing now in the case of F-35 and therefore felt the need to develop an European ingenious missile so they dont need to depend on anyone.

    when did this project start?

Mid 80’s but was canceled at the beginning of 90’s due to the war in former Yugoslavia.

I have heard that Kuwait had a similar installation west of Ahmed Al Jaber AB. Not sure if that’s the truth but if I remember correctly, I may have read this either in AFM (long time ago).
Did this capability exist and if it at one time existed, does Kuwait’s air arm still use this capability or just relies on its two airfields and Kuwait International Airport?

    This might help:

I am of the opinion that the engines need to be overhauled(last time i heard we obtained the RD-33s was in the mid 90s when they got smuggled in the trucks over the border with Romania) and the electronics which will get somehow updated. The airframes shouldnt be in that bad shape. And when you divide 10 mil by 5 airplanes you get 2 mil per plane which is i think an ok price since we arent going to fly them every day, just to keep the pilots more or less capable.

Now Mig-21 airframes are too old and Mig-29 are going to be phased out in 5 or so years.

Well you can continue to follow your animal instincts if you want.i will not care of what you write.

In Serbia we have a saying “The smart guy drops the topic, the donkey continues to brag about it”…

It seems you are an Albanian version of Slobo 😀

I dont think mother nature was very generous to your Mig copies either…

And Gollevainen were you sarcastic or serious?

And yes with 5 Mig-29s we cant defent Serbia but thats what we will have to try to do as best as possible with for some time untill the other problems are solved first. At this time we dont need air defence airplanes as no imminent danger is ahead.

Serbian airplanes, most noticably Mig-29s were dispersed and took off from roads and highways during the NATO bombing in ’99.Here are two photos to support this fact!

Also,i know there is a highway airstrip that can be used by Cypriot or Greek Air Force on the Highway between Nicosia and Limassol(about 15-20km from Limassol). The barriers in the middle of the highway can be pulled out and one can notice a caracteristic shape of the runway. There are also dispersal areas on the side.

The first reason is that any country should defend itself when being attacked. We were confident that we can avoid larger losses by the tactics implemeted during the confrontation(mobility, decoys etc.) apart from the fixed targets (building,bridges..) that were evacuated and emptied before the attacks. Now if it came to ground invasion, NATO would certanly suffer serious losses cause Kosovo isnt Iraqi desert and our defences were organised very well, therefore we knew we could hold on there (at great cost unfortenutely so its good it didnt come to that). Last reason was we didnt want to let anyone tell us what to do about our internal affairs, especially the countries that had/have similar issues themselves :USA(extinction of American Indians-no one said anythign about it),UK(Ireland),Spain(Basque),France(Corsica) etc.

For other reasons, you can send me a private message ,cause they are strictly political and historical in nature.

Serbian people Schorsch do not think that they won that war (dont mind Serbmig). We know we lost and what we lost. What people evidentally are proud of is the fact that, concerning the number of aircraft bombing us daily,we managed to shoot down even 2 airplanes (lucky or not) and preserve the ground forces.Fixed targets were destroyed as expected but all the buildings were emptied before.

We could not have done any better,as our equipment was old and outdated and our country was 10 years under international economic sanctions.

Our air force should definutely scrap the Mig-29s as they are too old airframes and concentrate on mobile air defence missiles untill money to buy some descent airplanes is available, whenever that will be.

WHo said a B-2 wasnt shot down?I used its parts to coat my Yugo and now police radar cannot catch me while speeding! Guys dont provoke Serbmig,as he will believe anything.

The sad fact is that only 2 airplanes got shot down. Most probably more got damaged but these returned however to NATO controlled airfields.Thats the end of story.Anyways war is over and we shouldnt bring it up.This was thread to talk about Mig-29s getting upgraded.

If Iran gets attacked they will most definutely respond to it by launching their missiles back and most probably at the least protected areas in Iraq or Aftaginstan. It Since US troops are stationed in those countries,it would be justifiable to attack them there,as they would be an enemy.Remember if there was ever ground war on Kosovo, why wouldnt it be ok to bomb US troops that were stationed in Macedonia or Albania.

I do not thing that US has manpower and enough support for the casualties to follow as Iran has religious fanatics that will simpy run at the tanks in human waves!

I dislike the Iranians as well but i am sick of wars and i hope it doenst come to one,as i have seen enough myself.
