Re: Prague divided over radar sale to China

During NATO bombing in Serbia within the Kosovo crisis between March and May 1999, the use of a Tamara system was suspected of aiding Serb air-defence forces down a US Air Force Lockheed Martin F-117 Nighthawk stealth aircraft.

They still think this?I thaught they know better.

Isnt there an arms embargo on exporting weapons to China from EU?

1480kg of titanium must be costly? But it is cost efficient when the airplane and pilot both return to the base.

Well Su-34 is larger that Su-25 which would maybe make it an easier target for AAA but it is more manouverable.

Where is titanium all used on this airplane.I presume for protecting the cockpit from the bottom side and left and right side and between the engines. Anywhere else?

Didnt you know Viper01 that we bought second hand Tornados from Luftwaffe?:)

Anyways, joking to the side,i come from Serbia but am in Germany. In the location i wrote where i come from rather that where i am.

I still do not understand how it could have happened.Low visability or pilot error.Who knows:(

Here is picture of the missile and a link to FAS website with more text for the people that are wondering what it is.

Paveway too? I wonder why Russians havent developed earlier laser guided bombs.

They probably got many parts from helicopters since these did not crash as “hard” as the airplens.

As to f-117 again, they must have obtained something at least, some structure tips, avionics,it was not in that bad condition when it crashed.at least the underfuselage.

When i think about it,the biggest scientific or weapons breakthroughs were in the times of crisis like wars. Who knows what could be made then…

I did not read about it in Flight International but on some website.
The problems that come up are:

1)Neutron bomb might break the asteroid in smaller pieces therefore several small asteroids might strike earth at different locations.

2)It is about time to reveal those Lasers and stuff from AREA 51:) If the laser could break up the big asteroid in many many small ones that would burn in our atmosphere that would be good

3)How do you get another asteroid to crash into the one that is on the way to earth?

4)The spacecraft must be attached to the asteroid long long long ways away from Earth in order to steer it enough to miss.It is really complicated if not impossible.

Lets just leave it all in hands of Bruice Willis,he managed to destroy the Asteroid in Armagedon,so he has one kill so far.:)

I do not think this is some new design.Chinese aircraft designs and future views are much different now than that Mig-21 looking aircraft.

If you want to check nice videos of JSF go to Locheed Martins website. My favourite is the B model, due to his vertical take off and landing and the technique that that trust fan uses(i like the part when the VTOL parts open up):)

I have seen the pictures of this system in one airplane magazine.I am interested which other airlines will do that?I was thinking only El Al was going to do it.

The problem that i still see is that apart from that system as airliner’s defence, even if some missile does pass it,airliner cannot manouvre that much while taking off and landing due to low speed.

That is what i read a year after the bombing.

As to F-117,”half of Serbia” has its parts, the outher skin i mean, since everyone wanted a souvenier.Apart from F-117,UAVs like Predator and Phoenix were also sent to Russia. I do not know what happened to F-16s parts but maybe that too.

No one answered me so far on Vietnam? I think that some F-111 or F-4s in fairly good condition were found on the ground?

I am glad to read that A-10 will continue to fly and be upgraded! I think no UCAV will be able to replace it fully when it is paired with a skillfull pilot. A-10 has shown itself combat proven, very survivable, carries a heavy load etc.

One thing i do mind about A-10,and that is DU ammo for the GAU-8 cannon. It is really harmfull for health and everyone knows it.Places where it was used in Iraq and Kosovo are still contaminated. I think that a hit from normal bullets at that speed and from that cannon could destroy the targets that DU bullets are used for.

Does this mean a brighter future for Yakovlev and that we might actually see in the future some new Yak planes go in the service with Russia? I hope so!
