There was an incident at Stansted not so many years ago when a modern large jet (I forget which type) was being started after a long layup and a wet start occurred with lots of impressive flame and smoke. The Fire brigade who just happened to be driving by, misunderstood the situation and promptly put the ‘engine fire’ out 😮 😀 :diablo:
Somebody used to have a photo page on the web of various impressive wet starts but I don’t seem to be able to find it now
Similar experience for me. I was very surprised to see 200 or so people in the theatre. Film looked sharp and the low flying scenes with the lancs were great. Does any one know if the night scenes were shot with special film as they just looked great on the big screen ? In a couple of places it looks like they deliberately left some of the ageing so you wouldn’t forget how old it was. I saw it close to London, and there was a gasp 😮 when the N word was used for the first time re the dog.
It really was worth going and I am not afraid to admit I was captivated for the whole two hours Well worth seeing
Have they remade the wartime original then ? Anyone know ?
Yep, its only one engine being tested but the howl is definately there 😀 :diablo:

If its a serious as implied the whole engine may have to be removed and they are not small on a vessel of this size.
What weapons fit are they proposing ? Has money been invested to give them at least the rudiments of modern stuff ?
So is it one of the advantages of the Typhoon that it is also an ‘operate from anywhere’ kind of aircraft, like the Harrier ?
The telegraph are generally the best of a pretty poor bunch though. Personally I can’t see TLAM’s going in in the short term, as surely that would involve major work ? I have seen it said in a couple of places that the Harpoon are a relatively easy fit though.
So does this mean that if necessary it will be towed to India in 2008 and construction finished there ? :rolleyes:
For those of you in the UK listen to BBC radio 4 Tuesday night 8.00pm . Shadow of the Dragon is a 40 minute programme looking at the build up of the PLAN military and its possible consequences.
It should be available over the internet for those whom missed it via the BBC’s listen again facility in the days after
So some of these Puma’s will be nearly 50 when they retire if they extend their lives ? 😮
Looks like we are going to be seeing a whole load more interception photos in the near future;

It will be just like old times……….
Ever so slightly off topic as it relates to LHA’s, but the article in the link reports from Marine Corps Times on the their Corps exercise flying their AV8’s from the British carrier Illustrious. There is some interesting commentary on the differences between the British Vessels and the ones that the Marines use as well as differences in doctrine.

On the basis that they have produced two interesting variants on the F5, are we soon to look forward to an Iranian significantly modified F-14 with V shaped tail, TVC and new wings etc ? :diablo: 😀
Assuming its not a photoshop jobby, its a very clean looking machine indeed.
