So how many days will it take before they change it ? One day next week perhaps ?
Follow the various links and all will be revealed 😎
Yes, and the film company only had £19 in the bank :diablo: 😀
Go and post the question over on tank net and I think they will say that it is very good but nothing is invulnerable now. I might be wrong here, but last time I looked the only tank that so far had destroyed a Challenger 2 was another one. Doesn’t the M1A1 use the same armour or something derived from it, and there have been a few of them lost, though I am not sure how many, if any, were penetrations.
Isn’t there still a chance of a couple of slightly larger T45 with Cruise missiles, a bigger gun and a larger hanger ? They need to keep as close as possible to 30 escort/frigate/surface combatants as possible in my view to be considered a global bluewater sea power.
The next time there is a regional disaster somewhere out of the way (god forbid)where an aircraft like this is needed, I can imagine a real catfight developing as all 13 want their share of the aircraft at once to deliver aid. Several of those countries could easily afford to buy 2 or 3 C17’s each.
Which was exactly the problem that the RN had in the Falklands as they had no local AEW and very few aircraft so the carriers had to stand further offshore than they would have liked for safety reasons
You really want your pound of flesh don’t you 😀 :diablo:
Thats about 35 pence a litre in UK money which isn’t much different to what the airlines are paying for their fuel
Its the Grace of the XB-70 Valkyrie for me, sorry I don’t have a piccy, just a link:-
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I have just read in this months Navy News that VT will start cutting steel on HMS Duncan, the 6th type 45 in the series before the end of the year and the Dauntless, Diamond, Dragon and Defender are all progressing in build with them having just started on Defender in August.
Has there been a change of plan or did they originally intend to build them all so fast ? At this rate of production parts of VT will be looking for work at the end of next year. There can’t have been an occasion for Decades when the RN has had six frigates/destroyers in build at once ?
I think its the inovative way these are financed and maintained that makes them attractive to Government and the fact that they have small crews. I would not be surprised at all if a formal slightly enhanced Corvette version was acquired. There is some sense in the High/Low spec theory for your basic surface combatant however, my own personal view is that a shorter/lighter/cheaper Frigate derivative of the T45 might be more attractive for the High end of this if they decided to go down that route
Is it not the case that the UK Empire test Pilot School is now operating a couple of Gripens ? They must have some faith in it
Latest, official naming ceremony of the new Helicopter Patrol Vessel for the Falklands.

Quote: – “HMS Clyde has a state of the art air surveillance radar and more extensive armaments” ……
…………am I missing something, I thought the Clyde was to only have a 30mm gun just like the Dumbarton Castle that it is replacing ? Have they sneaked a bit more capability past the bean-counters again ? 😉
Perhaps its carrying 5 GPMG’s rather than 4 like its predesessor :diablo:
levity aside, its always nice to see a new vessel entering service 😎
I know that the USAF didn’t necessarily want the J, but where would they be now given subsequent events, if they did not have it ? As ELP mentions some of the earlier ones are wearing out, but wouldn’t the position actually be worse now if they hadn’t procured the J, with older airframes being asked to soldier on and some approaching being unairworthy ? Was there a plan by the USAF to cover this scenario ?
