……. scrappies get annoyed about non serious buyers going just to look at an airframe and take pictures. The thought was these time wasters would just speed up the scrapping process.
Yes thats correct.
RIP XL391 🙁
.
The real thing ?
I’ve ‘Googled’ this photo of N8156, in Ottawa.
I presume its clarifys what a real Camel stick looks like ?
Any comment to make on the Harrier nose yet Neil ?
Hi John. Just to inform you. The new owner is the cockpits 2nd owner from when it was last on ebay. The photos of the section used in the last listing were in fact old and not an acurate representation of how it looked. The previous owner failed to mention he had stripped the paint from the right side. Again this was not mentioned in its last listing on ebay! The cockpit interior is as it was for the last auction. The host of instruments and parts never materialised after the last ebay listing! The owner never had a F700 so by advertising it as having full history was incorrect!! The seat which came with the last auction was from a jet provost not a lightning and had spent the last twenty years outside. This was so corroded it was scraped! The section is now far more complete than when it was last on ebay as the current owner has sourced many of the access panels which were missing. The present listing is very accurate.
I think its on at a very low price. Its the only surviving cockpit section of a Lightning F1 in the world! That alone has got to make it worth way more than £5K!
So £750 for it 10years ago was a bargain then ?
:diablo:
This is a strange one. Is your PR9 a nose section or the whole aircraft? Bex

Also there was a two seat Hunter cockpit in raspberry ripple colours on a trailer, which I later saw driving towards Norwich, no idea if it was being collected from the museum or just visiting, anyone know which one it was?
Rob,
Yes thats the ex-Mick Jennings cockpits from Coltishall, including the raspberry ripple Hunter T.7 XF321.
Cheers………
I seem to recall it was already preserved, but needed moving from A to B, so they tinkered with it and flew it instead of pulling it apart.

Didn’t this cockpit sell for £3600- a month or so ago?
Stuart,
Do you mean Lightning XM144 ? If so, then yes, a forumite on here auctioned it for £3,509. Here….

If you recall, there was a thread about it that turned ugly…..
http://forum.keypublishing.co.uk/showthread.php?t=61537
I sent you a PM at the time explaining the background as to why and XM144’s previous history, suffice to say i dont think your old ‘hot’ Scimitar nose has had so many owners !! 😮
The current vendor isn’t that auctions winner, but he is the same guy/company whose Tornado windscreen tables etc, etc… have caused some debate here recently over their value.
.
Ah yes, but thats why it’s so low in price…………theirs nothing there!!!
I think your missing the point, there was nothing in the £6K one either….!!
A Jag for 1.5K?!! Wher’s that then and I’m sure it’s stripped!!
Everett Aero and it’s XX744 (gutted inside of course)………
Oh dear, its XM144 again.
Can’t point you to the previous thread as it got deleted. Nuff said.
Speaking of prices, I believe theres a Canberra T18 down in Hampshire, ok its in bits and only has one engine, but according to the seller that the price includes nose bubble and any missing instruments all for about £5k, oh the engine works too. So to me £4,500+ is tad on the pricey side for a stripped out cockpit
WK126 ? (Actually in Glos’ at present)
http://www.gjdservices.co.uk/html/sales.html
oh and could get a stripped out Jag fuselage for £6k. Bex
Actually you can get one for £1.5K.
.
JagRigger et al,
The original Harrier OCU marking (before adoption of the Welsh wildcat flanked by bars) was actually of a gold coloured grasshopper (shown below).Northeagle is correct, the serial number was repeated on the nose.
XV741 and XV744 was seconded from the unit during initial staff training for use in the race ~before~ the acceptance by No.1 Sqdn of Harriers in late 1969.
Hope this clarifys things ?
And another rarity ?
Herbert…….?
Didn´t I tell you? 😀
Indeed you did. And here also……
How much…..!?! 😮
