Thanks for such a quick reply. Seems odd that such a historic event is only going to be available to a limited number of people.

How are your ‘9s doing down there Martin? Do you know how AJRB is doing with its refurb?
9s are doing fine now with four flying and a 5th in the works.
AJRB is progressing well with the fuselage recovered. Will try to take some photos this weekend. Going to Henstridge tomorrow.

I’ve just spent a week or so touring the Western Isles of Scotland and then into Eire in an Auster AOP.9 and can confirm that the above mentioned aeroplane is an Alpha as it and its owner (Peter Gill) came along too!!
Best wishes,
Martin
Contrary to popular belief, W&R is not the be & end all. Many entries are merely carried forward from previous editions and only amended if new details come to light. Many private owners wish to remain private.
I agree, I know of quite a few airframes down here in the South West that arent where they are listed in W&R. I will give an update to Ken on a few, but for the others, like Dave says above some people wish to keep things to themselves.
Best wishes,
Martin
DC3 or C47, my point was that if you check the first post it says “DC6 N1944A from Kemble”;)
Why is it that I NEVER read posts correctly, and I’m meant to be a proof reader at work 🙂
Best wishes,
Martin
C-47 or DC-3? According to the blurb beside the airframe, it was stated that it served at Upottery on 6th June 1944 and then later towed gliders over in the next few days.
So that makes it a……C-47 as thats what it originally was? The mind boggles (well mine does) as to such points. Bit like the Mayfair Dove, when that was originally a Devon.

Lee, good to meet you again and thanks for the photos….now I know what was behind us when we taxiied out (the Chipmunk).
I went back again on the Sunday and it was a lot quieter, sad I thought knowing that Branscombe was cancelled….this time in Mk.3 G-AREI and came back in Mk.9 G-BDFH. We took the Broussard along too.
Dakota is due to fly out on Tuesday at 18:00hrs.
Thanks again,
Martin
Yep T-6G G-BKRA. Suppose the RAF one was MK.IIB G-AZBN?

Mine was the Grace Spitfire.
When I was about 14 or 15, I went flying with a friend who had a Cessna 172 at Bodmin and we flew down to St. Merryn, where upon landing we were taken by the farmer Bob Partridge into what I thought was an old shed.
Inside was a Fairey Firefly Mk.6, two Piston Provosts, a Stampe and in the corner being worked on by Nick Grace was the Spitfire. He asked me what the aeroplanes were and have correctly indentified them all (I didnt get out much when I was a child!), I enquired about a ride in the Spitfire.
The sum of £200 was suggested and so for months after, I scrimped and saved, cut neighbours grass, painted walls, dog walked, you name it to save my pennies. And then……
the Spitfire moved to Goodwood and not having the means of getting there, I duly spent the money on my first stereo system. This of course lasted more than 20 minutes which would have been the duration of the flight, much to the annoyance of my parents!!!
I have since flown in a lot of warbirds and classics and at times think how lucky I have been. If I had been a little bolder when younger, perhaps I would have added the Spitfire to my list. Oh well…..
Best wishes to all,
Martin
Returning to the Museum side of this thread….
I fly often in two Auster AOP.9s that have been in museums before. The prototype WZ662 (G-BKVK) used to be in the Wales Aircraft Museum at Cardiff and the England to Australia XR241 (G-AXRR) was in the Army Museum at Middle Wallop.

Much appreciated Albert. Nice to have something to remember how lucky I’ve been!
Best wishes,
Martin
Did anyone manage to get a photo of the three Chrisleas together?
I flew up on the Saturday and missed them, but would like to see a photo of the three of them together. Surely something that has never been seen before. Having flown in both Super Ace G-AKVF and SkyJeep G-AKVR, this would be nice to see.

Having been lucky enough to have flown in over 200 types, I still have a few on my ‘shopping list’ and these are the:
Pilatus P.2
NA B-25 Mitchell
Dassault Flamant
Saab Safir
Commonwealth Winjeel
and any Harvard.
Best wishes,
Martin
I have the plans that were issued in a later volume of Aircraft of the Fighting Powers. Can always photocopy and post off to you.

Cornwall’s only civil owned airfield ……
Bodmin is owned by the members of the Cornwall Flying Club.
