An Auster AOP.9, an aeroplane I’ve grown to love over the last few years, a DR.400 or Super Cub.

They always say that ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’, so I would be a Harvard of course.

But is that cause people say I can be blunt and very noisy at times and then again often overlooked and under appreciated!! 🙂

Seems odd that the baggage door has been shown in primer when its on the other side of the fuselage. Is this one of the ex-Paraguay machines?

    And here’s a few more Auster snapshots……

G-BGKZ alas is no more, being used in the rebuild of another Auster.

Nice painting. Reminds me a bit of that crosswind landing shot that appeared on the forum a while ago! :diablo:

I’m not quite sure if that is a crosswind photo. It has been mentioned on this forum before, but the old 9 has for some tendency to do quite what was shown in your photo for no apparent reason at all.

I’ve yet to have it shown to me (and hopefully wont) but have witnessed the occurence. It seems that in perfect wind conditions and when the aircraft is three pointed onto the ground, sometimes (and I must stress this) the wing lifts almost to the point of contact with the ground. No matter what input is made, it stays in this position for a couple of seconds and then things start to return to normal. Weird or what?

The pilot’s notes make no reference to this strange event, but it happens and no one has been able to say why it does it. Think this was the main reason why the CAA was a little dubious about granting a full C of A when the type became available to the civilian market.

Here’s two from me showing G-AYPM after and before (didnt get the photos the right way around) its recent rebuild back to the configuration it had when it left the factory in 1953. A superb job well done.

The AE-1 did see service at Pearl, but not until 1945.

I like that. I saw that sort of thing a few times in my years in the Army so that sketch brought back memories of when I was much younger than I am now (like 40 years younger)

And I must say I like it too……shows what the 9 is all about.

I fully understand what you are saying Propstrike. The flight was briefed before it was undertaken, we were all on a common frequency and all pilots were experienced in formation flying. The object of the session was to take some of the L-18C with the Cornish coastal scenery in the background to make a noticeable contrast with the yellow of the airframe. This done we headed for home, and broke formation. As the Auster sped (not really the word) away from the Cub, I duly snapped that one photo.

I now realise how stupid of me it was to post such a photo which could illustrate a bad example of airmanship (or rather in this case on my part, use of a camera at the wrong moment). I sincerely apologise and if anyone is wondering what I’m talking about, I think it was best to remove the photo from the thread.

Perhaps I should think a little harder next time before putting my fingers to the keyboard.

    Best wishes,

Might have a spare seat or 2, but leaving Nth Devon at 06.00 sharp !!

Thanks, but that means leaving home at about 3.45, so perhaps another time. Thanks for asking though – much appreciated. Am going to Trago this afternoon (like I do every week to see if they have placed their final batches of TSR2s on the shelf).

Bit too far to go me thinks.

I was there for about five hours with my Dad. Only saw one TSR2 and that was on display. Suppose everyone there had them already!

    Best wishes,

LN-MAX is cn 84167, but was however certified as cn 85738 (which belonged to LN-BDO, former DE840/G-ANSE, w/o 1963). It seems like G-ASPV’s parts were used on at least two different Tigers in Norway. The fuselage on LN-MAX, and the wings on LN-KAY (stored/being rebuilt?).

Thanks for the information. So what does this make G-ASPV then?

I had a look at the airframe the other day and it is a Tiger Moth and the CAA website gives the identity too as 84167.

Aaaaaaarrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh……..what am I going to do next?

    The plot thickens!

    Best wishes,

Now I am not one for remembering registrations, so upon reading the thread title thought that this Mustang was a basket case project.

Only upon taking the time to actually read what was going on, I am a little saddened to know that its the old G-SUSY, as this was the first Mustang history I researched for its owner and then of course the first Mustang that I’ve flown in.

I always feel (and I may be sad of course) that I somehow become ‘attached’ to something once I’ve placed my bottom into it.

Just hope she goes to a good home.

Apologies about the registration. I’m not that good at remembering such things.
