I recently bought the Carpena decal sheet which covers 20 T-6/Harvards from different countries. T J
I’ve got one of those kicking around somewhere, but the moment my aim (sad I know) is to build replicas of the ten Harvards that I’ve been lucky enough to have placed my backside into over the last 19 years or so. After that its whatever takes my fancy and with so many variations and themes, I know I wont run out of ideas….although it might be a case of running out of shelf space!!

Was that US mail colors or is it plain red?
T J
The US Mail painted example is N4596N which is owned by David Gilmour and based at a strip in East Sussex.

I was and still am a beta tester for a FS2004 Harvard that when released will be payware. Although my time on the real thing is rather limited (35 hours and all from the back seat), I found that it was extremely difficult to get the aircraft trimmed out at the correct settings ie prop, engine and manifold pressures etc. The flight model was tweaked on a number of occasions and only once through some 80 hours of test flying could I get the Harvard to trim out properly.
This as in previous comments above, is the problem that we all have with the software, trimming is far from ideal and no where as easy as the real thing.
I’ve decided not to upgrade to FSX as am happy with what I’ve got and if I’m to spend anything in the future it will be on the real thing and not on the simulator.
Best wishes,
Martin
a) The Fouga Magister (and I’m not a jet lover!)
b) The Me110
c) and surprise surprise the Harvard. Think over the years must have built over 15. Now have four in boxes and thanks to Dave T another nine or so in various forms of assembly. Really, dont know why I built so many as the Heller and now the Academy 1/72 are much much better. The Airfix 6 has the wrong canopy for starters for a MK.IIB. Terrible how it was released like that, but then for me it was the only one available, besides the Testors version and that took a lot to be desired.
Perhaps I should have liked Spitfires from the start……:)
Best wishes,

Well I’m off first thing in the morning (to beat the holiday traffic) to a shop further down west, where they have a number of Chipmunks on the shelf. I know I might be being a little too keen, but rather get them now, then wait for someone (hopefully) to bring the kit out again.

The Stearman in question was registered G-ELAN and was owned by a Mr D J Ashley of London. It very badly damaged in a crash at Rendcombe on 27.12.91.
The damaged airframe was returned to the USA and was subsequently rebuilt and is currently registered as N68994 to an company at Ocala FL. Like many Stearman restorations the amount of original airframe left in the rebuild may be questionable.
Moggy C- To my knowledge this aircraft did not have any connections with Jim Avis

Phil,
I cant thank you enough. I tried all the spotter forums and couldnt come up with anything at all. The gentleman will be very interested to know of the details.
Best wishes,

Sat in the rear seat of Auster 9 G-BDFH on Saturday on the way back from Henstridge to Eggesford and whilst munching away on my Sandwiches, noticed a shadow running in the opposite direction moving very fast along the ground. Not knowing what it was and couldnt see a thing, turned out to be the Sea Fury on its way back from Plymouth for its second pass at Henstridge. Passed straight over the top of us. Pure Magic!!

I was speaking to someone at the weekend at the Henstridge Fly-In that for some unknown reason mentioned that he had flown in this very aeroplane when it was operated by the Exeter Flying Club before it was sent overseas. I have the gentleman’s phone number, so will try and find out what I can and will report back.
Martin
The weather wasnt that good at Henstridge, with quite a strong cross wind. Think that may have put off a lot of people. It wasnt that pleasant when we left Eggesford and only after passing Exeter did things improve.
Seeing that photo of me in the 9, reminds me that I should get my hair cut!! 🙂
Best wishes,
Martin
Its weird how the kits still keep popping up. A friend at work told me that the local discount store had ‘some of those rare white kits you’d been after’ on the shelves the previous weekend…..so I left early and found three TSR2s there at the bargain price of £11.99.
Weird or what after all those months.
Martin
And no I didnt buy all three, giving someone else the chance to own one!
Well….thats mostly green with some rather dark stains that I just dont really want to talk about.
Seriously mode of transport should be an Auster of some description or the Broussard. Just had a look at the forecast (which keeps changing all the time) and well, we’ll just have to wait and see.
Remember its the August Bank Holiday and I cant remember a good one!!
See you tomorrow (hopefully)
Martin
I’m going, in something green and brown. Not sure which one though……
Martin
Thanks for the info. I do have a phone number in one of the boxes and think might be paying a visit to see what else is on offer in the next few weeks. Only problem is, that like the ones I bought at Dunkeswell (two Harvards, the P-64, a Stearman and a Hind), I just dont seem to have the space to put them!!
Best wishes,
Martin
