I bet you even keep it in balance better than T6 flyer does, but that probably has something to do with the size of his feet!

Excuse me…….its just that I dont have any co-ordination, thats all! 🙂

I always thought that those things on the floor were footrests…like they have in Cessna 150s!

Wow how do you manage that is it a case of not what you know but who 😉 😉

I did all the research into having the aeroplane repainted from looking like a St Ivel shape yoghurt back into its original 1950s colour scheme. It may be a case of who you know, but nearly all the flying that I’ve done is cause I’ve worked for it in some way or another. I’ve now sadly flown 1201 times in 223 types ranging from flex wing microlights to classics and warbirds.

I hate asking for rides, and only did it once when I was about 14 and the pilot (it was an Auster 9 of all things) told me to go away or words to that effect as the first one began with a ‘F’ and since then I kind of think its rude to ask. I’d rather do something in return as to the aircraft’s history etc. A lot of doors have opened this way and now looking back I am very glad in all that I have done.

    Best wishes,

    Martin

£7.50 from Pooleys Rob – but most small flying schools sell them

I can always get one from Bodmin and bring along to Eggesford when you arrive Rob. Saw in Trago Mills (local discount store) today a Farnborough 1950s DVD which features G-AMMS doing aeros. Might get a couple next time I’m passing.

The record card does state – overseas – but no indication of where she went. Although another Mustang which is close in serial number did venture to warmer climes, it cant be assumed from what I have that there is no indication as to what units she served with in WW2. I had this problem when researching the history of another British P-51D, when out of the blue some ‘records’ were found saying that it had seen combat service. I for one am always very curious as to what the sources are.

Will find out about the MK.III. At the moment its still down at Bodmin, but should be back before the Fly-In. Richard is away for a few days now, but dont think you have anything to worry about.

As other people say get a logbook as it is a wonderful thing for keeping your flying memories in. I use a Pooleys or AFE one (now on my third) and have now flown 1201 times in 223 types (all for keeping a logbook!!).

I suppose for me it has to be my first one at about the age of 7 or 8 at of all places Swansea. All I can remember was that it was a horrible day and the Vulcan broke cloud at a low altitude. After that it was the superb St Athan shows and then lots more over the years.

Now have no interest at all in going to an airshow. Been to so many over the last twenty years on both sides of the fence, that find it all just a little on the boring side and now just stick to going flying and the odd Fly-in.

News to me too fella -I thought she spent some of her time in South America however? Guatamala? Nicaragua or somesuch – not aware of any wartime history

    TT

Served with various State side units including the ANG and then was sold to Nicaragua. Will have to find everything when I’m back home.

Possibly, but would you care to elaborate whats happening at Eggesford ? Or is it a private pow-wow ?

The following weekend is the (previously postponed) VJ day airsho at Dunkeswell with Sea Fury, BBMF, Catalina, C-47, Pembroke, 2x JP’s, An-2, and Miles duo all booked to appear, so maybe you or the Auster guys will be there also ?

    TT…. do Anson’s count ? 😉

The Auster ‘thing’ is open to all lovers of aeroplanes. Its not advertised in the flying magazines, due to the fact that its only really for Austers and Beagles, but anyone passing is more than welcome to come and say hello. Where else in the world can you see 4 airworthy Auster Mk.9s, the sole remaining Alpine and Chrislea Sky Jeep, the famous G-AMMS, Lycoming power Autocar, the Mk.III, a AOP.6, 2 Chipmunks, Broussard, the Phoenix Duet and more and more Austers.

As to Dunkeswell as its only just down the road, think that we will be going. Think it was cancelled last year due to the cost of policing the site. Shame.

I researched the history of G-SUSY for Paul when he first bought her and I never ever came across any record of combat service. The record cards give no indication of wartime units and off the top of my head without looking anything up, I seem to recall that it stayed in the States.

I will check and report back.

….and dont forget i’ve got nearly a dozen assorted Harvards/Texans waiting here for you Martin. 😮

And I’ve got this Victor sitting here too. Perhaps over the weekend of the Auster event at Eggesford when Mr Langham is down our way?

[QUOTE=Rlangham] Yep i’m going down to Eggesford on the 5th/6th August for a bit of Auster-ing, can’t wait! Did you find out if i’d be able to get a flight in G-AREI Martin? [QUOTE]

I asked Richard and he’s delighted that you are coming down and he said ‘that we will have to arrange some flights for you’. That will definately mean a Mk.9 and the MK.III and perhaps the Broussard. I’m not really that sure, but you will get a few flights.
