I agree with Martin. The whole aviation sphere does need new young blood in order to survive.

I’ve just got home from Belle Vue and everything went to plan. All the lectures went well (including my own!) and all the Scouts flew – five were lucky enough to fly their navigation routes in a Cessna Bird Dog!

    Heres to the next one!

    Best wishes,

This coming weekend sees the annual de Havilland Moth Club Charity Flying Weekend at Old Warden. For £60 you can fly in one of the following:

Tiger Moth; Leopard Moth; Hornet Moth; Dragon; Jackaroo; Auster Autocrat; Piper Super Cub; Motor Falke, Chipmunk.

We must interest young people in the Club and aviation in general as most of us are old duffers!

Pity that I live so far away down here in Cornwall, as I wouldn’t have minded adding the Jackaroo to my ever expanding types flown logbook.

But I have a good reason for not going and one that promotes aviation as I’m off to Belle Vue in Devon to help the PFA give local scouts their aeronautica badges. I’ve volunteered to teach them marshalling (was a Squadron marshaller for years and years and now do almost every fly-in Devon and Cornwall). Other subjects taught will include Met, R/T and GPS, Airframes, Controls and handling and Navigation where they have to plot a course with three waypoints and then go and fly it for real. Aeroplanes this year include three Aeroncas, a Eurostar, Jabiru, Jodel D112 and a Condor.

All of us are giving our time for free. We do need more young people to be involved with aviation and hopefully at the weekend we might a few more of them interested in our hobby.

Alex I’m sure its the prop :p

I agree…..havent really noticed the difference in the past between a short exhausted (?) T-6G and a long equipped Harvard IIB or 4.

Whatever it is, its a lovely sound!!

It is the air over the prop tips exceeding Mach 1.0, the prop like a wing may be less than Mach 1.0 but cause the air to travel faster to produce a sonic boom

When I had my first Harvard flight (many years ago), I stupidly thought that it would sound like that in the cockpit too:)

    Hi guys!

Not sure this is the right forum/website to ask on, but here goes…..

I’m looking for a program that’ll allow me have 2 aircraft in the air at the same time in FS2004. Basically all I need to be able to do is have 2 different aircraft in the air at the same time to do a screenshot of them in formation.

    Dave

Now I’m not the best person when it comes to AI (cant understand TTools), but last Christmas I was given as a present FSTraffic 2005 and after reading that you could populate the skies with virtually any aeroplane, that is what I can now achieve. At first it was a bit hit and miss, but now have my ‘skies’ populated with warbirds and GA with the odd airliner here and there.

For results have a look at my threads in the Screenshots forum.

Look out for the 1/48th Occidental kits – a H IV and T-6G they are superb, much better than the Monogram ones – have a couple, you can pick them up for about £6-7 on ebay

    TT

Wouldnt mind the Mk.4 kit as have flown in 5 examples, but is it accurate with the correct canopy, exhaust etc, or it is like the Airfix Harvard……(how did they managed to create that one!).

Perhaps I should have a little slice of humble pie tonight to go with my tea. Believe the main customer for the fuel on the Sunday was the pleasure flying Devon as remember hearing that you could only get fuel up to a certain time and then it was the Devon’s turn.

By no, you are right, we wouldnt have been able to go to Keevil at any other time, we all had a book to read and we met people that all shared a common interest – grass was still in a bad condition though.

Thought this looked rather nice – bit pricey mind you…TT

Tempting, but think will stick to the plastic kits. Already have two Monogram 1/48 and approx 20 1/72 of various makes, but interesting to see nonetheless.

Watching / photographing the aircraft land and taxi in, it seemed to be quite difficult to avoid the soft areas with 1 or 2 getting stuck and needing assistance. Some of the marshalling looked a bit suspect (proper bats might have helped)

I arrived on Sunday morning and we found it very hard to understand what the marshallers were asking us to do. Standing right infront of a taildragger isnt really the place to be is it (over to the left was what I was always told).

Bats I agree would have helped as it was at times nigh on impossible to pick up the marshaller. When leaving on Monday, we were told to turn left and follow the marshaller’s instructions and there wasnt one in sight.

Im not trying to dig holes (sorry) as realise that all of the gentlemen involved were volunteers and all gave up their time and effort in what is normally considered to be a thankless task, but it would have helped at times if directions and signals were just a little clearer. I dont think I would have had the time or patience to stand out there in all weathers (and we did get them this weekend).

The ground at Keevil was shall we say very uneven and full of holes, but then I suppose you would have this, if the area was used as a landing zone for pallets and loads dropped out of the back of Hercules and C-17s.

I saw five aeroplanes on the Sunday coming to grief either by falling into illmarked holes or by striking the cones, including an Issacs Fury, Chrislea Super Ace, Cherokee, Aeronca and Auster.

I thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and look forward to next year’s event.

    Best wishes,

****** me Martin – we’re not letting you loose in ours then – Jinx!

    :p

Best not….I once went through a phase where one week I would have a flight in an aeroplane and then a week later that very same aeroplane would have an accident. One was a Wassmer Europa and the other a Robin DR.400. Seemed my friends cottoned on and for a while, I didnt fly at all. But it was all pure fate, wasnt it?

Hey Mister can I have a flight in your aeroplane?

What is happening to them Harvard’s will they be able to fly again.

Its sad when Warbirds crash land 🙁

    James

The answer is yes…..(probably)….spares are still available and in this day and age almost anything given lots of time and money can be rebuilt. A friend of mine suffered a very bad ground loop in a Harvard at Ostend and at first thought the airframe was a write-off but after a new wing was found (courtesy of an Harvard in Wales) and a new undercarriage, that same aeroplane is flying today.

The weather down here in Cornwall has been, shall we say terrible. Hopefully after looking at the forecasts today, we are hoping to go tomorrow and at the worst on Monday.

I will set off for Eggesford tomorrow morning to see how things are there.

Its such a great shame after last year, but one thing you cant book is the weather.

    Best wishes,

If the weather would have been fine as we speak, I would have been on my way. Saturday doesnt look that tempting, but Sunday looks to be a better day, so will probably go then. Got my tent and everything packed, just need something to go in.

    See you there!

Wow where did you get the Tigercat, Bearcat etc very, very nice pics

Thank you very much. The Tigercat is the one created by Kazunori Ito and is available as freeware from most sites and the Bearcat is the old Alphasim version which has now been released as freeware. This I only use for AI purposes as can be seen yesterday on the flight from North Weald to Duxford, staying well clear of Stansted enroute!!

    Best wishes,
