No, it was just a case of hangar chat this afternoon, dodging the snow! 🙂

Just got a call from my local model store. The kit is now in stock and they’ve put my ordered one aside for me.
Can’t wait to go and collect!
Umm think might have to leave work early today and pop into Plymouth to see if can lay my hands on one. Probably not….but its worth trying, isn’t it? 🙂

So, for people such as myself that has an interest in the aeroplane, we haven’t got a chance of popping along to our local model shop and picking up a TSR2? Pity that some model shops didnt put a stop on the number of kits that people could pre-order.
I cant see the point of making something this popular, a limited edition model. Surely there is a large market for this aeroplane?
There, have thrown dolly out of pram!
Best wishes,
Martin
One of our club members recently bought a roughly 1/72 scale R/C twin based on what looks like a Betty even though its described as a US Bomber!!
Flies entirely on engine thrust and seems to be the ideal thing for non flying days. Believe it was from Ripmax and cost £30 for the plane, charger and receiver.

[QUOTE=GASML]Just on the offchance. I suspect this photo also dates from the ‘Bodmin era’. Does it jog any memories with you?[QUOTE]
Bob Cole was the first club member that told me to ‘come along and have a look around’ when I was 14 and I’ve been here since (cept for a few years when was messing around with Harvards). Helped with my introduction to flying as did Dick Smerdon then CFI of the Cornwall Flying Club.
The photo here is taken at Bodmin outside the main hangar. I noted that the Luton is in the Vice Chairman’s parking space…..wont show that to some people as they will be wanting their own spaces!!

Thanks Martin, look forward to seeing any from that era. Its the bit of the aeroplane’s history I know least about.
Hmmm. Just had the half mill charts out. Already starting to plot a return for G-ASML to Bodmin sometime this summer. Fancy formating in the Cub, Propstrike?
Perhaps you could think about coming down for the PFA 60th Anniversary Hangar Dance which is to held on Saturday 1st July. Looks like is going to be a large event due to the interest already received from around the country.
Martin
Also Derek, if you remember G-ASML in her time at Bodmin, can you throw any light on the story behind this picture?
I’ve been a member at Bodmin for over 20 years and seeing that photo of her in the water brings back a lot of memories. Believe the pilot was Bob Cole.
Will try and find some more Bodmin photos for you.

Still havent found out where the Sycamore went to….
Weather wasnt very good this morning to take photos of the Castle Air Lightning. Will try later in the week.

The other British resident Bird Dog (ex F-GFVE I think) is today in its hangar at Belle Vue in North Devon. Its currently up for sale if anyone is interested…..

Its amazing what useless bits of information I can remember!!
Must remember to learn to type quicker and I may have got there first 🙂

It is indeed. Used to be the family home of the Foot family (ie Issac father of Michael the politician).

No-one’s very close yet, I’m afraid.
I don’t want to make it *too* easy, but let’s just say that the markings of this machine are less than 100% accurate.
Its not the ex Strathallen Fairey Battle by any chance is it?
Remember seeing a photo of it ‘somewhere’ with the fuselage being moved outside. It wore a star and stripes then.

Two more of the Callington Lightning
Martin
Lived in Tremar back in the 70’s. Rumour has it that the father of a kid I went to school with in Torpoint had a Lightning on a stick. Guy by the name of Ernie Marshal in Downderry, bit of a property tycoon back in the day, he had a Countach in ’76…
What a small world it is. Kid’s name was infact Guy and his Dad was and is Ernie Marshall (property developer in Devon and Cornwall and builder of the house I live in). Mr Marshall was involved with the Lightning Flying Club with Barry Pover and I believe helped in the purchase of the Lightning spares from Binbrook which have since gone out to South Africa along with G-LTNG.
Its his Lightning which is the one at Callington.

The House in St Cleer is owned by Roy Flood who at the time owned Castle Motors and Castle Air (As used in Treasure Hunt with Anneka Rice).
Roy also had a Sycamore from Torbay in the grounds which has disappeared.
I had a look at these, with the permission of Roy, some years ago when en-route to Flambards Theme Park to move the Whirlwind HAR9 and Widgeon.
If T6Flyer asks at Castle Motors it might be possible to visit the house to see the Lightning up close and find out where the Sycamore went.
The house is now owned by one of Roy’s nephews and I’m in contact daily with one of his sons. I have thought about asking to have a closer look at the Tremar (St Cleer) machine, but just haven’t got around to asking. Probably wouldn’t be a problem.
Funny that you have mentioned the Sycamore, we (myself and Mr Flood) were talking about it down the pub last night and he cant remember where the helicopter went to. I’ve asked time and time again, as its the only thing that is lost in W&R, so hopefully by next week I will be able to tell you more. As far as he could remember it went somewhere to be rebuilt to flying condition, but where he cant recall. Think we had had too much to drink by then!!:)
The Flood family still owns both Castle Air and the connected Castle Motors.
Best wishes,
Martin
