The 109 replica is still there in the field in which it was filmed. Still virtually intact with the elevators and rudder lying next to it. I didnt know anything about it until last Summer when was taken by Auster to go and have a look at the ‘German fighter’.
Surprised that it is still there as I believe quite a few people call Exeter up reporting a crashed aeroplane in a field.

Trago Mills. That name rings a bell. Weren’t they sponsoring a light aircraft design a while ago? Think it was called the SAH-1 or something similar. What became of that?
A wonderful little aeroplane….first flew at Bodmin in 1983 and then the intention was to build the aeroplanes there at a factory behind the airfield. Designed by a gentleman called Sydney Holloway who I believe worked for Beagle in the 1960s. Was tested at Boscombe Down by EPTS and was found to be a delightful aeroplane. Would have made a good trainer to replace the Bulldog. The plan to build them in Cornwall fell through and then it was going to be built in Hungary. This didnt suceed either and at one time Piper were interested in the type.
Bought up by FLS along with the Optica, a few were built before the company I believed closed down and the prototype and others were purchased by Aces High at North Weald. G-SAHI is still there and one of the others is now resident at Exeter.
A workmate has loaned me an extraordinary tape of the Farnborough Airshow 1958 (or at least part of it is 1958). Everything wonderful that’s British is featured, all the V Bombers, the brand new EE Lightning, the Short S1, Hunters by the wheelbarrowful and Javelyns … and on and on (sigh). It’s a truly excellent vid
.
Changing the subject very slightly, my local discount store has currently in stock a wonderful DVD of Farnborough from 1948-1959. Runs for about 1hr 30mins and is just wonderful. Lots of aeroplanes that we have sadly forgotten about. A snip at £3.99. Anyone in Devon and Cornwall nip along to Trago Mills and see for yourself!!

There are so many lovely aeroplanes out there….ones that spring to mind are the Bucker Jungmann, Auster Mk.5, Beech 18, Spartan Executive, Tim Conrad’s T-28 and Helio Courier, Yak-18T…the list goes on and on.
Never tried an airliner……….

(still beta testing the Aeroworx T-6 and loving every minute).
Now that’s ugly.
They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but then I would be biased, wouldn’t I? 🙂
Suppose here its trying to depict one of the French T-6 (Tomcats) that saw service in Algeria, a number of which featured the psuedo Shark’s mouth.

still got to get around to getting one….but its on the ‘to do’ list. Am at present testing some lovely autogen trees for my home county (personal note: think should get out a bit more!:))

Sad News indeed. I remember reading it as a child and then hearing it on Jackanory and then well just forgot about it and a whole host of other things…….then the other day I saw a copy in a bookshop and just had to buy it. About the other fiction book in my collection.

A wonderful day and thanks for the photos. The lanky orange marshaller next to the Avenger looks like its me! Fame at last 🙂

davski,
I think you must be mistaken, as G-ABTC hasnt flown for at least 20 years (CofA expired in 1984!) Last I heard was it was ‘stored’ down in Cornwall somewhere with Pete Channon
The Comper Swift is one aircraft that I’d love to fly…..
G-ABTC is stored somewhere in Cornwall……but where I cant remember?! (or more importantly I dont think the owner wishes it to be known – not even W&R knows where it is). I saw her about two years ago stored in a hangar which she sat with a tarpulin over the fuselage.

Jan,
Have a word with Stoney Stonich at the North American Trainer Association. He wil probably know someone that has the relevant information. His email address is NAtrainer@aol.com
Best wishes,

Any plans for it to do the show circuit / fly-ins ?
I suppose so, but I dont really know much about the plans for the aeroplane and before anyone asks I dont even know if it will be at Legends! 🙂

Well its almost been two weeks now and I think I’ve got the hang of the program. Have sort of re-arranged things so to speak and have populated the skies with types that I’m more accustomed to. Now, I find it interesting to arrive somewhere and see what’s visiting rather than seeing the usual Cessnas and false airliners.
