    SWORDFISH PEGASUS RADIAL

    Hi did you read the thread on SIMONS SIRCUS,we got around to the swordfish via pete sheppards name, I was on HISTORIC FLIGHT in 1974 and rebuilt the fish engine, as I said it took 3 weeks just to grind the valves remember the head is attached to the barrel so access was difficult.It did start 1st time,I worked closely with JOHN DAINES BRISTOL AIRPLANE CO,I joked he built the machines that built the engines,1 st time around.Wonderful times in the F.A.A, MARTIN JONES POAF A/E

    ALBERT all is revealed,the name FRED came from the team led by L/C REYNOLDS joking in the crew room that they were like FRED KARNOS CIRCUS,and having five a/c in the team the team name was born.{from reputable source my boss VIXEN / FURY/SWORDFISH display pilot}

    I can reveal the SEA VIXEN WAS A SUPERSONIC aircraft in a shallow dive,and if people want to take the ROY CROPPER anorack approach to whether it is in level or diving, the fact remains it could still go supersonic.[source as above] MARTIN J

    The comment was one that it was always referred to as a supersonic jet,I was only trying to say that such a complex aircraft is not common place,like the usual round of spits/hurricanes,it was not to establish the nenth degree of technical details,the matt finish night fighter mosquito was a few knots slower at top speed,so a polished 110 might just do it,also the earth is curved so part of the flight IS downhill.
