Best shot I’ve seen of the approach attitude of the Connie.
Well done Glenn!
G’day 😉
I’m afraid the photo of MH-434 and the comment about the empty cockpit brings a tear to my eye!
My most poignant memory of Ray’s display flying was his leading the “Frightening Blighters” at the Duxford Autumn Display following Mark’s untimely demise. The closer was the BF 4-ship and while they flew nothing moved on DX except the heads turing to watch. I think we all felt it was a tribute to Mark and it will live in my mind forever.
RIP Ray.

Wardie,
The average is 3usg/hr per engine. However, it doesn’t pour out during flight, but from the lower cylinders during engine start. If she’s flown on a regular basis, then the oil stains reduce a bit; especially if she’s washed after the first flight [we’ve done this at Longreach, for example.]
However, if you look at the [former] Save-A-Connie L1049H with her recently overhauled engines, there’s far less oil mess; simply a function of engine life.
Hope this helps a bit.
G’day 😉
ollie, try 4-seater Skyraider.

Wirraway turning towards a nascent RAAF Williamtown. Sandhills behind could also be in WA if not Stockton Bight.

Contact Desser Tyres in the USA: http://www.desser.com/
They’ll probably be able to suggest a solution or source if unable to supply an aviation part.

The genesis is another matter, but the modern airline logic has the pax loading on the left while the baggage and catering is dealt with on the right.

Dave,
Have a look at Stewart Wilson’s book for a slightly more historically correct view of the Beaufort introduction.
