Janitrol heaters have been around forever and work well IF maintained properly.
The Connie had one in each wing-root, but they’re removed on today’s fliers.
G’day 😉
And I thought I’d sinned too!!?? Glenn sorted it, thanks.
My comment, why would you bother, relates to the fact that it was a failed project that was never going to be built because of a design fault. I really can’t see why you’d save it, especially as it was the cockpit which was the problem.
G’day 😉
Checkout the Russians
I think you’ll find the large Antonov’s carry two engineers at a double-panel.
G’day 😉
Just on the phone to a Cat expert as I opened the forum!
The answer is 4; 2 per wing.
As to torpedoes, wasn’t there a vintage clip site posted on here win which there were shots of Cats torpedo dropping?
G’day 😉
I wonder if any of you have considered the element of luck in touching down prior to the threshold or was this a plan!!
G’day 😉
The yellow is fairly well documented, but if you’re going for the camo, why don’t you ask the RAAF Museum how they derived the scheme. They’re usually very accurate is any depictions they make.
G’day 😉
Not half as daft as the CAA morons who carry bulls**t to the nth degree.
It’s a sheer fluke that aircraft are allowed to be built of anything other than cast
iron! Modern materials just don’t cut it [or, perhaps, the NIH syndrome?]
G’day 😉
A most revered restoration not far from here [well, not here, but the home of this board!] has, AFAIK, Irish linen with two-pack auto paint over the top. Seems to be holding up well with time!!
G’day 😉
Thanks for the photos! Good job.
G’day 😉
Indeed, I was sitting at the Connie overwing exit row doing a spot of planning for Monday’s departure and I had to lift my legs up to let one through!!
G’day 😉
I’d say it was one of the best military airshows I’ve seen in a lifetime, especially in a country without the variety which can be enjoyed in Europe or sheer numbers in the US.
It should be noted that Saturday was the better day for sunshine, but the fighter/bomber formations had a couple of changes between the days [e.g. the Boomerang had trouble keeping up on Saturday and was more comfortable with the bombers on Sunday.]
The RAAF has a policy of one big defence airshow each year; next will be RAAF Edinburgh SA. Avalon will also be a part of the RAAF 90th celebrations in 2011.
Finally, it was Akko’s finale as FA-18 demo pilot in the [now know as] “classic” Hornet and he closed the show both days. A very energetic and suitable farewell!!

Err…..perhaps Dorniers operated by the Dutch after they escaped Indonesia?
G’day 😉
The boys finished “installing” the front turret on the Cat yesterday, so she should be there with her new look. Not a bad job of “retro-ing” a -6 into a -5.
I’m told [and stand to be corrected] that there are now only two cats flying in the world which have front turrets?
G’day 😉
Fantastic..thanks so much!!:D
G’day 😉
Thanks Chris for the video which puts it in perspective.
G’day 😉
