Sadly, for some, it would be the last time they would form up.

God bless all who served and died with RAF Bomber command.

AMEN. and thanks to those that waited at home for their loved ones to return, their fight was harder in some respects.

He doesn’t want to fly in the Chipmunk. He’s got bigger, faster things to fly. Don’t shed any tears for him!

EH??? doesn’t want to fly in the Chipmunk!!! 😮 something can’t be right there!!! EVERYONE should want to fly in a chipmunk, it should be made obligatory. have flown in four of these wonderful aircraft and savoured every second, even the one when the poor thing decided she didn’t need her engine oil anymore and dumped it in the cowling 😮 (RAF Binbrook, many moons ago).
    all the best.

Hiya folks, as a non pilot (and thanks to the split with er indoors wiping out my savings not likely to be one now either) i can’t comment on whats safe or otherwise but i assume flying, like driving you should always be kept within your and the machines limits, and “bravado” or “showing off” if kept well within these limits should’nt neccesarily be dangerous, i understand the need for speed / hight and so on. i have been in a chipmunk that suffered an engine malfunction in the circuit shortlty after takeoff, we were still in the circuit the pilot had turned 180 degs and we were level with the upwind end of the runway he cut the motor as he put the nose down and we glided the base leg to a safe touchdown. as a result, i have a healthy respect for keeping it safe, thanks for the lessons here. much appreciated.
    all the best.

Should have slotted the b@st@rds on sight, would have saved a lot of taxpayers money and a lot of left-wing ‘civil rights’ nonsense.

airshow at RAF Finningly when i was an air cadet (very many moons ago), we were doing F.O.D patrol on the grass about half way between the crowdline and runway, and the vulcans took off. one at the end of the runway just lifting off, one half way down (and level with us) and one starting its run. thats when i learnt what “can’t even hear myself think” means!!!.
same place, same job, another year and concorde came a close second.
