hope you don’t mind me adding to this thread, this day was also my mums birthday, which she would have spent part of it taking my grandfather his lunch to the old English Electric airfield at Preston, lancs. when she was there she would often play in the gun turrets of what she described as a two engined halifax (seen pics and it was probably as she described, a halifax with both outers removed). mum went on to work at RAF West Raynham (sp?) in the NAFFI. grandad stayed on with EE then BAC, and retired when they where making Jet Provost T5s. hope you don’t mind me rambling on.
    Best regards.

pet hate or me at the moment, people who use the nearside lane for overtaking, especialy on or just after roundabouts, some folks just don’t realise that lwb landrovers have a massive blind spot on the nearside, weigh nearly two tons, have sh1t brakes and the turning circle of the titanic, to the folks that use the overtaking lane for wan**rs, ya wanting to die or what?????.
    rant over,
hope your day, mood and head get better soon Becka.
    all the best.

thanks for sharing those pics ith us Peter, that is a very sad state for a mighty vulcan to be allowed to get into. i for one will not be going to Blackpool to witnes the state of this forlorn aircraft.

    not a song but a band…the B52’s.
also i once has a single by Gary Neuman that was shaped like his Havard, complete with japanese markings too.
also there is a song about the munich air disaster that never (as far as i know) made it to vinyl, (due to its slightly sick subject matter),that was sung to the tune of daisy, daisy. that has these lines
they want in a DC seven
and now their all in heavan
notice the wrong type mentioned, the Man u team where flying in an Airspeed Ambasador of course.
there is also a song by Mike Oldfield titled “five miles out”, the CD has a lockheed 12 on the cover.

thanks for the info on the Blackpool Vulcan guys. it really is a shame that this aircraft will probably not survive for very much longer as corrosion takes its toll. i read someplace that the guy who bought her from the RAF was quoted as saying “if i get five years from her i will be happy”. is the cockpit worth saving i wonder?.

is the Vulcan at Blackpool still there?. last time i saw this aircraft (about 15 – 18 years ago) she was in very poor condition, tyres all flat, oleos compressed battered, and faded paint. if she is still there what state is she in now?. (or is it best not to know 🙁 )

looks like a T3 or similar (ha – like I know what I’m talking about).

    Flood

you’re not wrong there Flood, it will be either a T3 or T4, trouble is the main difference between the two are different engines with the T4 having an uprated Viper unit and the T4 has a longer pitot tube (under the port wing), neither of which is of any use in identifying this one.
    best regards.
