Alas that would probably get me in a little bit of trouble!
They aren’t the easiest thing to get to, we will need to dismantle the whole rear end of the engine to get to them, but they can be replaced, they are no similarities with other Speys unfortunately, it’s a 101 we need!
We have a Spey rollover stand and the manuals to disassemble them but obviously it would save a lot of time if we could just swap them with some in preservation that the owners have no intention of running!
Thanks for doing that Sven, just to clarify a few points,
The bits that have burnt through are the Nossle Guide Vanes (NGVs) they direct the flow onto the first stage of the HP turbine, so are the first things after the combustion chambers.
As to the replacement engines, anyone who has one, will get one that looks exactly the same in return, just it wouldn’t be runnable. We have all the equipment and experience to perform engine changes and would leave the aircraft looking exactly as it did, for out of aircraft engines it should just be a straight swap so you you wouldn’t lose anything.
Any help anyone can provide would be very much appreciated!
Ollie
Well sort of on holiday, it is June! (supposedly)
Not much to report really. We were all set up to do a full proper compressor wash on the last running day, unfortunately the starter motor on the aapp gave up the ghost on that morning (typical!)(the rear bearing collapsed) so we were unable to as the spare starter was off site. Since then the starter has been replaced and the aapp successfully test run.
As of last Monday we have commenced sanding for a full repaint, it’s been 6 years since the last and we decided she could do with a spruce up! We were going to paint it green/grey camo but we have enough hemp to do the aircraft again so we are doing it hemp. Maybe next time!
We will carry out the compressor wash on the next running day
Thanks everyone for your replies.
Just a shameless thread bump for the pylons and ERUs. I am willing to pay for said items if that’s what it requires for people to “find” them!
Cheers
Ollie
We have the F700s for the jet but no logs as such. We know for certain that she will have gone to Goose Bay during her career though!
As for the skull and crossbones, 100sqn used to fly Victors and said they would sponsor us some stuff and gave us those stickers, lost them at the last repaint though!

The Victor K2 has a rapid start system fitted to 1 and 2 engines with the bottles charged up to 4000psi with dry air. When they were B2s all 4 engines on the Victor could be started simultaneously. In the Victor it is called a combustor start and it is actioned by selecting combustor on the starter panel, opening the hp cocks and pressing the button…simples!
Hi Gary,
Feel free to use anything from my posts in your newsletter, i am still on the team just unable to dedicate all the time I would wish to it anymore!
Thanks for getting in touch. In terms of appeals, we are looking for the wiring diagrams for the Victor installation of the OMEGA nav system as the RAF helpfully took a hacksaw to the loom when they removed it. We have both ends and the boxes but need to know how to sow it all back together. Unfortunatly it isnt in our Vol10s for some reason, if you have a Vol10 could have a peek and see if its in there, a photocopy would be fine of the appropriate page!
Also we need two pod panels that have the proper looms on to get the wing pods fully functional! The ones we have in dont have any looms and are gash wired for lighting only
Many Thanks
Ollie
Only a bloody british aircraft would switch on the Oil Pressure gauges for the engines at the navigators position, which isnt even in the cockpit!!
We are still using the T Bar engine door keys, alas the top access panels are of the standard DZUS type, so its back to the ol hammer and spanner around screwdriver trick along with dosings of penetrating oil!
Square keys we have, and the tank button tool I have heard of, but what on earth are wobblies!!!?
On a smaller note can we not discuss colors on this thread. The poor guys at Bruntingthorpe are getting a right hammering at the moment for all the wrong reasons and it isnt fair on them.
You dont happen to have any pictures of Tina in her new paint do you?
Yeah, I used to work on the sim, it was infact the reason i joined the forum to see if anyone out there used to work on it. We were really getting somewhere with it.
It flew, all the instruments were working (engines, AIs, ASIs etc), but then a few years ago the museum decided it cost too much money to run so shut the power off to it….
Although i have nothing to do with it now, however I understand it is shortly going to be moving, i hope to a good home…
Hi Blue 2,
The team will be there from about 11ish, just come over to the Victor and say hi, ask for myself (Ollie Suckling) or anyone else you see loafing about pretending to do work!
The Dak is coming along, but slowly, it will be the beginning of next year before she fires up, if not later!
Will post up some pics tomorrow night of our ongoing work, really need to keep this thread going!
Cheers,
Ollie
The Elvington one will be delivered on the 13th of April.
