Mark12 or Daz,
You might be able to help.
I’ve found this picture of Spitfire Mk22 ‘R64’ as a Gate Guardian:
(Apologies for the link – I’m just being cautious about any copyrights).
The image is not dated, but it looks fairly recent.
However, they list that ‘R64’ was originally PK350.
I can only presume that this is an old picture.
But, I have a suspicion that the picture is actually of PK355.
Can you confirm?
Lastly; it’s got zero-length rocket-launchers under the wings – did the Mk22’s that went to Rhodesia get updated to Mk24 spec?
Jim
Superb shots Niall!!
Wasn’t the display by Ferocious Frankie superb – I hadn’t been to a display in years, but to hear the sound of the Merlin, and the whistling gun holes was wonderful – even my girlfriend now likes the Mustang, and that’s saying something!!!
Have you got any pics of the Seahawk and Fury?
I know what they can be like!
I did start the small one out to see if I could make it really nice and scale, but I’ve got to the point now where I just want to get it into the air!
You wouldn’t happen to know what TFC are up to with PK624 – I keep seeing pictures on the web; it looks like the fuse has been stripped and bead blasted, but I’ve seen nothing further. 🙁
Daz,
Great pics – just what I was needing thanks!
Just the inspiration I needed to get these beasts finished – I’ll put some pics up on the web when I get a mo, and drop the link in.
But, if there are any more pics, please keep posting!! 😀
Jim
A very sad sight indeed..
Where is she now?
Jeepers .. that sends shivers down your spine….
I presume it was a gunnery target at some point in it’s life … unless there were some BIG moths around 😀
That’s a great one Phil, thanks; wouldn’t it be nice if TFC got her back in the air..
That would be great Daz..
Thanks again.
Thanks!
Well spotted Daz …. I was hoping no one would notice 🙁
After spending a couple of evenings masking up the roundels and the fin flash, I stood back to admire the work, and promptly went and found some whisky to simmer the fury … once i’ve proven it flies, then I’ll repaint it
As for the pics – superb – I haven’t seen most of these – I’m really looking for a flying shot of one of the early production ones whilst they still had the MK21 tail, before it was increased to the ‘Spiteful type’ – I’ve got a few pics of PK312 on the ground in this configuration.
I’ve done the smaller tail on these models, as I think it looks slightly cleaner, and the motors I use don’t give quite as much torque issues as a Griffon 😉
Alpha,
I found the following, which may be of some use – I’ve been using it for some of the details on the RC MK22 I’m buiding at the moment:

Olds Cool,
I’m new here, but read your note on you going to Stafford. …. I’m desperately trying to get pics of MK22s and 24s for a couple of RC projects that I’m doing at the moment.
Would you be able to take a load of pics of any you find there??
Pretty please?!
Thanks
Jim
