Even by conventional MAWS standards 2 degrees is not that impressive, to cue DIRCM you need more accuracy. The Russian IR MAWS for the Ka-50/52 achieves 0.5 degrees.

That 2 deg stat isn’t for the F-35’s EODAS.

The old question of the fighterbomber ever since the Germans started hanging bombs under their FW190: Survivability of a laden fighterbomber against a dedicated fighter. Will the F-35 be able to go into the infight with a Flanker or a late model J-7 without dropping the a/g ammo?

It’s claimed that an F-35 with full internal load will outfly clean F-16s/F-18s. I doubt it’d drop ordinance to go to the merge. I suspect it’d opt to remain outside the detection ranges of those fighters.

And if it can’t get a successful BVR-ish shot with the AMRAAM and it goes WVR – what does it have? Another AMRAAM for the infight? Or the gun? Or a pair of AIM-9/-132 under the wings which will compromise LO? I say the F-35 better be real fast down low dry!

Unless the foe gets within 2000m, then the AMRAAM will work just fine.

Agreed, but it’s WVR capabilities are what seem to draw the most ire when compared to 4 gen platforms, Eurocanards, or God forbid Raptor or PAK FA. Even if DAS & HOBS work as advertised, doesn’t help in a gunfight. Guess a smart 35 guy just stays away from that fight. He ain’t out runnin’ PAF FA, though.

That’s kind of the whole point of being both stealthy, and having superior situational awareness. The F-35 pilot will decide the conditions it wants to tangle with other fighters more often than not.

With F-15s Literally falling from the sky, F-35 delays, Raptors being to exspensive and F-16s getting old. What will defend U.S. air space? Do we need exspensive stealth fighters to escort the occasionnal 747 or bear? Discuss.

When’s the last time an F-15 fell out of the sky? After the one broke apart, and the fleet was grounded, they pulled the iffy ones from service. Now this doesn’t answer the question you posed about which aircraft should perform this role, but a SLEP’d F-16 would probably be the cheapest way to go. If new build aircraft are considered, I would imagine that F-35s will be used, as the ANG isn’t going to buy Navy aircraft(i.e. Super Hornets).

What would render the f-35 a great fighter for its buyers? Price, inhanced wvr capabilities ( TVC), etc..?

TVC would be one of the least valuable upgrades. It’s the other features that will make it a great fighter for its users(as is).

That’s another way of saying F-22 is exempted from the theory, i take it ?
& no doubt F-35 is the final exemption.:o

Nope. AESA systems facilitate LPI functionalities, but being AESA doesn’t immediately make something LPI. It remains to be seen what capabilities competitive arrays have in that area.

That mean AN/ALR-94 on the F-22 Raptor is worthless vs any Fighter/AWAC/Ground based radar with AESA too right ?

Or is F-22 exempted from your theories ?

Not at all. That depends on the LPI capabilities, more than the fact that a system is AESA.

Pretty much. It certainly won’t be helpful to anyone hoping to remain unobserved.

At least I’m not using grainy/blurry pics, that offer no resolution. Believe whatever makes you feel good, as there’s no point in going on about this.

And this is precisely what those of us who aren’t anti-F-35 have been saying for years.

well post a pic of a representative Su-34 then.

Well Google images doesn’t have Su-34s listed by what year they were built. If you can find a pic that you think more accurately represents current build quality, I’ll be happy to take a look.

Here’s another fun comparison, starring a brand spanking new F-15SG:

Looks excellent, doesn’t it? Well, it’s decent but not quite as impressive as it initially seems, if you walk right up to it:

    http://www.mountainhome.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/photos/090518-F-2039L-%20102.jpg

The finish still looks tidier than any Fulcrum, Flanker, or T-50 pic I’ve seen.

Well, that would more than likely be because the T-50 is not a production model at this point and lacks the extensive RAM coatings and seals seen on production F-22s. Even so, it is already a major improvement over any previous Russian fighter (even production airframes) and on par with Western aircraft such as the Typhoon, Rafale and X-35. What more could you expect at this junction?

BTW, panel alignment is something quite different altogether, unrelated to manufacturing quality.

Which is why I’m using the YF-23 for comparison for one, showing that even a 20yr old prototype has better tolerances in the finish department. As for panel alignment, that’s another huge factor in minimizing returns. Are all of the panels going to be changed on the production models?

With or without weather, these rivets will be seen.

You are brainwashed with all that garbage of super tolerances and uber stealthy rivets, what can i say? is hilarious

If you can’t see the difference, it’s not because it’s not obvious in the photos. It’s not stealthy rivets I’m talking about. It’s protuding rivets(i.e. every little thing sticking out on an aircraft that can reflect radar energy is going to be bad for VLO).

Is a picture, please, check some pictures of the SU-34, you will see them , some show very ‘smooth’ surfaces, others show how the real deal is.

Then again, there are professional pictures, and there are the real ones..

    How’s this one for you?
