Yes, but a deliberately inaccurate illustration is precisely what gets the dander up for those who are looking for even handed reporting.
LM presentaiton that was in Janes…Oh so that’s ok then
Well since neither of those are reputable sources, who would you consider a reputable source to find out about aircraft? Are you as dogmatic with regards to competitor manufacturers, and if so, could you point me to some of your critiques? This way I’ll see how unbiased and objective you are.
If the likes of you stuck to posting real facts and progress rather than trying to tell the World how superb the damn thing is when it isn’t even in real production yet and less than good things are coming out about the program then as i said previously i’d have nothing to say.
Could you cite some examples of these less than good things, since the manufacturer doesn’t have an inkling about the “actual” performance?
It is arrogant people like you who think they can dictate to others what to think that cause me to comment.
Pot…..this is Kettle….
Who’s dictating? You’re the one being dismissive of data that doesn’t meet your approval.
well i dont really believe in generation bullsh.. stealth is one thing(x-band), and onboard systems another. 2020 is soon enough. You dont buy a 5 gen for a 10 year period. 4 gen are not that behind 5 gen. especially with systems updates.
When can we expect these system updates? Where’s the funding for a Tranche 5/6 Rafale or Typhoon?
The ~60m price for the F-35 that LM floating of late is for LRIP-4 F-35A’s. Depending upon who you want to believe, this price is accurate or totally misleading – the ~60m may be what LM refers to as the “air system contractor” unit flyaway costs – which does not include the engine.
That’s not true. That includes a fully equipped aircraft w/ engine.
I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this program were cancelled on account of costs, particularly as the US doesn’t have an enemy – or prospective enemy – against which these aeroplanes would be useful. The F-16 is a perfectly adequate fighter-bomber …
Regards
You don’t think that in the next 30-40yrs things might look very different than today? Are we going to keep using F-16s as the rest of the world’s air forces use newer types? When you say costs- costs compared to what? Barring any unforeseen circumstances the F-35 will cost less than its competitors.
Probably in the neighborhood of $70-80 million.
The B and C models were always going to be more expensive than A models.
where greater measures were taken to prevent collateral damage.
Once again- the point of my statement. Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia would not meet this criteria.
Even with rumored price reductions (40% seems very high – source?), the cost per aircraft will still be more than estimated when the JSF program was started.
LRIP-3 came in under budget too.
You sir are the one being disingenous, simply focusing on one area of the package it is relatively easy to claim youir beliefs as fact.
Try looking at the overall package, the picture isn’t so rosy.I posted earlier in the thread a report on the Dutch potentially stepping out of the testing program…now why would they be looking to do that if everything was so hunky dory
Seems like fairly good evidence to me. Your definition of evidence appears to be anything which you believe supports your beliefs with the exclusion of anything which doesn’t 😉
So the Dutch not buying a test aircraft due to Parliamentary issues, means things are going poorly with the test program? That’s by no means conclusive evidence of anything regarding the aircraft itself.
Now for some “news.”
http://defensetech.org/2010/07/07/china-takes-premature-credit-for-possible-cuts-in-f-35-buy/
Possible cuts? Let us know when the #s of airframes ordered change for real.:p
There are some indisputable facts surrounding the F-35 / JSF program. According to publicly available data, the program / aircraft will cost significantly more than envisioned, and the program is running behind it’s original schedule by several years.
How well the aircraft actually performs will be discovered in flight test. According to publicly available data to date, the aircraft is performing as predicted, although the testing is still in early stages and will last for several more years.
CAPE data?
Think of that next time LM asks a double price for an aircraft with 25% more capability 🙂
(yes, I mean the F-35)
Double the price, and 25% more capability than what?
Sorry to break it to you but a unguided rocket like the S-13 is cheaper than an SDB and for CAS is arguably better suited since you really can send it right through the guys window. Even a guided version of the same rocket will be cheaper than your fancy SDB.
The rockets may be cheaper, but how much is the aircraft and pilot worth? There’s no comparison in how close you have to get to defenses to engage with rockets vs. being able to avoid most threats, and use an SDB. Additionally, the SDB allows you to engage much more hardened targets than rockets could handle.
You asked for it..
Like Bombing Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia…
Yes, maby not excactly terrorists, but anyway.. not that it plays out in favor of US.Thanks
These are examples of “where greater measures were taken to prevent collateral damage?” Finish reading my post before posting, and it’ll help the response be more pertinent.
