As far as i know, the last time i was talking to Desmond Normans son Alex, he told me that the 3 turbo Firecrackers were being used by a test pilots school in America.
Lack of appreciation for sarcasm, mostly.
Doh!! Been a long day!!
Oh great. More bloody photos. What is this forum coming to? The dogs, that’s what.
I rearly do not know what people’s ******* problem is, i for one like to see pic’s from displays i havent managed to get to, or for that matter one’s i was at or participating in. Keep up the good work chaps, as for the winger’s, get a life for ***** sake!!
Glad to here you are on the mend, i to hasd an accident several years ago in a Tiger Moth. Had i not been wearing a bone dome i would not be placing this post now!! Many people decry the use of bonedome’s, particularly in vintage aeroplane’s, because they say they look naff! or that they are expensive. You only have one head!!! protect it!!!
Again glad to here you are on the mend and maybe more will lean from these accidents and invest in a bonedome.
Thanks Consul, that would be great.
Excellent photo, thanks.
Am I correct in remembering from my childhood that your uncle built a really large r/c model Lancaster? Or am I confusing him with someone else?
no, unc didnt do that one, belive the big lanc was done by Jim Davis.
Dont worry Ben we’ll let you have a roundle for the museum, not even sure if you know what we we’rnt gona tell you?! Mr Slater is know a T6 jocky!!! Had a go in MV yesterday!
will check with unc when i see him and see if he know what happened to the models. As for pics, here’s one of the flying rep under construction in 1968.
pleasure, dont tell Ben!!! thought i’d leave fabric removal untill the weekend!!!!
Thanks Blue Max, I was aware of the large scale models (by David Boddington according to an old magazine I found in Dad’s R/C mag collection) and the ground replicas in full scale, but I never knew they’d gone to the lengths of going to the USA for shooting the flying replica. I guess it must have been for dogfight scenes mainly.
Does anyone know if the 1/1 scale non-flying repilcas or the models survived in museums? Or even just the BBC prop department?
I dont know if any of the full size BE2 ground reps survived but as RPSmith says the full size Pup rep built by DB is with MAM at Coventry. Im fairly sure that at one time some of the model were at the Model Museum at Goosdale Notts, not even sure if the museum stilll exsists.
The shots talken of the be2 rep in the US were mainly take off and landing shots, all the dog fight shots were done with models.
Still looks very Moth like to me – whats the story of the build??
Bruce
Based on a Tiger Moth fuselage, the rest is new build really. new decks, new U/C, new tailfeathers, new cabane and interplane struts. Wings, tiger moth but heaverly modified to remove sweep back and to change position of interplane struts and also make it a double bay biplane. Hope fully the full story will appear in print in due coarse.
The BBC did go out to the USA and take some photage of her for “Wings” but no she was not built for wings, most of the flying for “Wings” was done with RC mode aircraft. The full size replica’s used were ground taxiable only
Yi was built in 1968/69 for a feature film based on the “Biggles books”, the film was never completed!
Keep a look out in your favorite b pulications for the full story!!l
Sea Fury???
think the clue was in “OTTER”!
BE2C Replica G-AWYI, exported to the States and now back again……?
Correct!
Maybe we should divulge a bit more Matt, Ben’s sounding like he’s going to burst!
Oh Ok, just for Ben here’s a pic of said crate at Sywell in 1969, and if anyone does have any pics of her at any time then all would be gratefully recieved.
