Pretty sure that would be Nigel Lamb as leader, with ex-RAF Lightning pilot Dick Mannning as his No 2.
Certainly not Brian Lecomber, who was flying a solo Pitts for Toyota at the time. Neither is it John Taylor, who at that time was flying with the Skyhawks Fournier aerobatic team. Phil Meeson had flown the solo Marlboro Pitts earlier in the decade, prior to the 2-ship team being established.
The Marlboro duo went on to become Team Toyota in 1989, with an Extra 300 (in Lexus markings) being added later. They then flew widely in the UK and Europe in this guise during 1990, 1991, 1992 and 1993. The aircraft were subsequently shipped out to the Far East where they flew occasionally as the ‘Golden Dreams Aerobatic Team’ sponsored by Benson & Hedges. They were later joined by a 3rd Pitts, making the team a 4-ship.
The aircraft have since returned to the UK as far as I know, and in the last few years have undertaken occasional corporate engagements in Europe sponsored by Breitling.
Hope all this helps.
By the way, nice shots!
Dick Manning, thats the name i was looking for:D
G-wren was sold off, G-ROLL and G-BGSE remaining with the team.;)
It is allready clear that there are people reading this whose families were effected by this accident and you post that, what was the point 😡
I edited the earlier post. I trust people will understand why. Sorry I didn’t see it earlier.
Moggy
The Marlborough team were most likely Brian Lecomber and Phil Meeson.
Nigel Lamb and possible Phil meason but it could be John Taylor or im sure the guys name was Derrek Warring who flew for them around that time?

TT: Thanks for a fun day. Here are a few more from this morning.
Oh dear!!!!:p 😀
Yak 11 has it, a buffer is simply a time slot put in to allow for delays etc and enable the schedule to be brought back on time. One big one or a few small ones usually does the trick;)
Out of interest which Tiger Moth GOW was it?
I was there back in March last year. They were working on a US ‘utility’ type aircraft at the time. It was close to completion… has it flown yet? And what is it!
That was day I saw Kermit try and go flying with the control lock in the rudder (10th march 07 to be precise) of his T6!!!!!!!!!!!! 😮 Nothing against Kermit here, but what was ‘strange’ was the reaction of the ground crew when I pointed it out to them… Two old boys.. one told me that he always flies with the control lock in, the other told me that it automatically lifts out once he’s airborne. It wasn’t until a 3rd guy came over and asked what all the fuss was about that someone thought “Mmm, this bloke might just know what he’s talking about”… We had to laugh as the prop wash blew his Panama hat across the airfield as he tried to remove the lock.
What seems stange to me is that on the T6 the rudder lock is internal in the cockpit, it is actuated by the same lever as locks the elevator, both released by a lever at the base of the pilots Stick:rolleyes:
Even better is the official trailer on the films web site 😉
. Was the Sywell Gunbus a static film prop.
Dave
If you saw what it was made from you wouldnt need to ask:D
Does this mean you have brought yourself a Chippie now?
Nope, they fit other things as well;)
Here’s Scott Thompson’s well researched list of the Tallmantz aircraft from the period in question. It might help.
http://www.aerovintage.com/ac_tallmantz.htm
And, I’ve seen Zeppelin as well.
Once at my university’s “cheap film night”.
Rather impressive on a large screen, much less so on television.
Nope not listed, they didnt belong to Tallman there were on loan, possibly for Waldo Pepper as you can see them in the hangar scean near the end of the film!!!! Where are they now?? if they exist at all any more. Still registered to Lynn Garrison in Ireland.EI – ARH, EI-ARM
Both Pfalz DIII replica’s and one of the DVII’s are at Omaka. Of the other BM replica’s the other DVII’s are in antwerp and the USA respectivly, one of the DR!’s is with Rob Lamplough in the UK the other i know not where, anyone???
The two Mile’s built SE5’s were both lost in Accidents, Zeppelin and Von Richtoffen and Brown.
You could try Dave Goddard; he’s into Chipmunks;
Many Thanks
HP, do they have any more?? could do a pair!!!
Does anyone know the construction numbers and / or original
registrations (French or British), for the three Fokker D.VII-65
biplane replicas built for The Blue Max by Rousseau Aviation?
The Irish regos were EI-APT / ‘PV.Also, has anyone ever heard of the following WWI films:
“I Shot Down Rochthofen, I Think”
“Dubious Patriot”
Both used Currie Wot S.E.5a replicas.Simon
Amazing how often these old girls come up on here! The three DVII’s are now with 1, the stampe museum in antwerp. 2, Peter Jackson,s collection in NZ ( although i dont thik it is registered to him). 3, is with a museum in the USA, name escapes me at the mo, on static as it was crashed and the fuselage badly bent!! When i get home i will try and dig ot more details.
” Shot down Richtofen I Think and “The Dudious Patriot” are one in the same film. This was a film made in Ireland using the BM a/c around the same time as “Darling Lili”, Zeppelin and “Von Richtoffen and Brown” The film starred Cliff Robertson and sadly was never finished. The producer of the film was killed in the helicopter , SE5 Mid air on the set of “Zeppelin” The film used all the BM A/C and the 6 7/8th SE5’s built for “Darling Lili” plus several Stampe,s and Tiger Moths. It was one of the Miles Built Full Size SE5’s that was lost in the mid air.
I spoke with Cliff Robertson last year trying to find out myself what had happened to the film.
I have some pictures of the filming as my father was involved in the flying sequences at the time and he wanted some picture for his forthcoming book!
The FAC only brought 4 of the mini SE5’s, two remained in Ireland with Lynn Garrison. These were on loan to Frank Tallman at the time of his death and Lynn Garrison does not know what happened to them, anyone out there know what became of them or those that the FAC had?
Ask yourself how much the cost of filing your car up at the pumps has gone up in the last few months. Imagine what the cost of filling those A/c has gone up to?? its only gona get more expesive to see these Machines im afraid.
