It’s funny to see that our Russian friend is no better than most Americans. They too believe everything goes fine in Iraq and they are doing a great job for a better world. Brainwashed people… Funny… One can actualy make believe these people that US/Nato/Russian/… forces use UFO’s in their respective wars on terror… Very funny…
Greetz,
Dimitri
Again: I was there and I never saw any Mig-23 (not in the air and not on the ground). While in Abidjan I read different french reports and none ever mentioned a Mig-23. So, no dogfighting in the skies of Ivory Coast. And no Rafale either, ’cause France is sending Mirage F-1.
And another picture for the Su-25 fans.
Was in Ivory Coast last year (from 28/7 till 30/9). Heard rumours about the armed forces of Ivory Coast trying to get some civil Strikemasters. Never saw them. Never saw a Mig-23 either. What I do know is that they have some Pumas, an old Dauphin, a handfull of Mi-8/17, same with the Mi-24 and the Su-25’s. Some ofthem I saw flying, some I saw on the ground.
And yes: the 2 Su-25 were destroyed on the ground by french forces at the airport of Yamasoukro (capital of Ivory Coast).

Here are some pics of the remains of the Somali Air Force.
Feel free to mail me for more info.

For those interested in small airforce pics… I think that was one of the threads…
And some more pics…
Fighters: Mirage 2000 (42)
Training: SF-260 (24) -> basic
Outsource -> advanced
Transport: C-130 (8)
CN-235 (8)
B-737 (2)
BN Islander (10)
MPA: CN-235 (4)
BN Islander (4)
SAR: SeaKing (6) (to be replaced by NH-90)
Lynx (6)
Heli: NH-90 (24) -> TacTpt
EC-135 (12) -> Trg + Ln
Gazelle (24) -> Scout + ATk (to be replaced by AS 565 Panther)
Okay, this is mine…
Fighters: 32 Hurricane I (followed by Spitfires)
32 Curtiss H75 (idem)
Intercepters: 24 Bloch MB 152 (same here)
Light strike: some 32 Blenheim-bombers (replaced by Mosquitos)
Bombers: 16 LeO 451 (B-25)
Recon + army cooperation: mix of home-built Renard 31 and Fairey Fox (40 in total) + the rest of the Fairey Battles still in service.
ASR: 10 Ar 196 (Catalina)
Transport: 10 Ju 52 + 10 de Havilland Dragon Rapide + 5 Avro Anson (C-47)
Training: Stampe Vertongen SV-4 (Harvard)
And knowing the belgian military nowadays, I suppose they would have bought something from the french, the italians and the dutch back then to prove they are really a neutral country.
Kukri,
Your proposal sounds very realistic. Indeed the Ju-52 in the transport-role is kinda logic. Not much alternatives available (Avro Anson, Lockheed Hudson, Dragon Rapide).
As for training: I believe belgium would have chosen the Stampe Vertongen SV-4.
Air-Sea rescue? Perhaps a Supermarine Walrus. My idea on strike/light bomber is indeed the Blenheim too… Replacement: Mosquito.
Good job, anyway.
Dimitri
Sounds fair to me. We should not forget that Belgium was a neutral country back then. Buying german equipment only sounds rather unrealistic. Why not buy older stuff such as Curtiss H75, Brewster Buffalo, MS 406, MB 152, Hs 123, Ar 196, Fokker D 21, … And Blenheims, Hampden, Battle, …
I attached an orbat of the belgian air force by 1940 to give you an idea of what it looked like back then.
And this one I found on another (french) website:

No, not a PfP-ex. More of a deployment to guard their airspace. I suppose it has something to do with the Baltic States entering the NATO-alliance. See the thread on Denmark somewhere earlier this forum.
Okay, will mail you tonight .
Hi there,
FYI: Belgium should send 4 F-16 next week (they are waiting the final decision of the Minister of Defence) for a 3-month deployment. I suppose other countries will follow.
