Wow…just wow! Imagine getting inside some of those things! Speaking of copying, they even have Concorde-ski!
Yes, thought it was probably maritime rather than aviation. Thanks anyway!
Wasn’t meaning any disrespect to anyone- just saw link on Wikipedia and thought it an interesting/sad/poignant (from point if view of families) story. Very interesting also about the CRM stuff.
Didn’t mean to cause offence.
Yes, the Wikipedia article tells the story pretty well- the less said about the pilot the better I think. As it said, he killed all the rest of the crew, including the man whose final flight it was before retiring. Horrible.
Would just like to say a big thanks to all who organised and exhibited today! My son and I had a fantastic time! Highlights for me were the fly past, the Tornado cockpit, and speaking to the guy with Vulcan cockpit XA903 in his barn! Brilliant!
Good place! Went to open cockpit day last year- inside Nimrod is great, as is listening to stories of “top secret equipment from it being found in a skip!”
Just like to say what a fantastic afternoon my and and I had! Wonderful, friendly, and great value! Congratulations to all those involved in organising this!
In my opinion, the HH team are utter geniuses. As a primary teacher I regularly use their videos, and we even have them in the car to listen to! BoB on is ace. WW2 but not aviation related in the Land Girls song, and for utter hilarity try the Kings and Queens song.
Brilliant.
Thanks! Wonder about it’s future…?
Yes, I read about those aircraft classrooms! As a primary teacher myself i think that would be amazing- you wouldn’t get me (or my kids) out of it!
Just read up on XS919- interesting story! Wonder where it is now though (beyond in the care of HHA?)
Andrew
Reminds me of a place near Nottingham, originally called Wonderland but now Wheelgates. Was owned by an aviation enthusiast, had a Hurricane replica and a Lightning (XS919). Also had loads of old machinery to play on (Merryweather fire engine with ladder extended, old trawler to play in and various other bits which always felt like they were about to collapse into a pile of rust, which only added to the fun!
Sadly sold to someone who changed the name to Wheelgates now and got rid of most of it, including the Lightning (not sure where it is now?), much more sanitised and consequently less fun!
As usual, though, the comparative Spitfire is better…
Absolutely brilliant band. Got War Room a while ago, loads more of their stuff on YouTube- check out Protect and survive!
Lucky enough to see them live in Derby a couple of weeks ago- brilliant! Album is out next year according to Twitter feed @PSB_HQ.
Impressed with the Viscount! Was lying sadly on the ground with wings next to it last time I visited, so they’ve worked hard on that! Great stuff.
I too like Midland Air Museum a lot- the open cockpit policy (Vulcan/Argosy/Viscount open for no extra fee) is great.
