Excellent 🙂
I’m very glad I’m able to go both days this year!
My thoughts exactly 😀
Mick, this is as close to a topview as I’ve got:

Now imagine putting the bucket over the lady’s head. The clothes still look the same, but…
How about a brown paper bag then? :diablo:
By ‘similarly presented’ I assumed you meant it had a cockpit cover on.
There were no people near it during much of the morning and when the show had finished…
My luck, typically. I wasn’t able to get to the show until noon and had to leave at five. So in those five hours I managed to attend, people – civilians in bright clothing at that – were on, in or in front of the helo. No cover though, but just as unphotographable. Bummer…
Mark12, you’re absolutely right. My “score” is around and about 10%. In other words, out of every ten pictures I take, I only really like one. With a digital camera and a gigabyte or two of compact flash cards, that’s still a lot of nice pics! 😉
As for the sun… Kemble was scorchingly hot and sunny, but everytime a plane made a pass with the wings nicely banked towards the crowd, these silly clouds had to appear…
Neil, judging by the horizon in that picture, you were enjoying some cold, fluid Shuttleworth charm there too 🙂
PS. Clutter! :dev2:
It certainly wasn’t every time I went past it!
Well, you’ve been lucky! Sunday I was sitting more or less between the Chilean Puma and the runway. In other words quite close to the Puma and I kept looking back, hoping it would be deserted now and then, but it never was… 🙁
Don’t you just hate it when people do this?
Sure do! Especially if you pay £20 and want to see something interesting.
The Chilean (I didn’t know! ARGH!) Puma was quite similarly presented. What a shame…
I thought what was worse… that for £20 you don’t even get to see real fireworks. What were those purple smoke markers about. Sheesh…
I fondly remember the days where as a teenager I saved up money to take the train to the Dutch air force open day to visit their free show (since it’s a military show, taxpayers have paid for it already!) and be amazed by both quality and quantity. Perhaps “spoilt” even.
Last weekend this Dutch AF open day was held too, in Holland. While I had cute purple smokemarkers to show, a friend of mine sent me pictures of a Dutch Apache flying in front of a big black cloud from some decent pyrotechnics. Awesome…
Next year I know where I’ll be!
Now how about an American style pyrotechnics show… hmmm… :dev2:
Very interesting!
Looks like this is one of those planes where the following quote would be applicable:
“If it looks good, it flies good. This plane couldn’t do either”.
That B9 article was translated from a German 1970s magazine called Luftfahrt International (nr. 12). I have that magazine, by the way, but there are no more photos, I’m afraid.
PS. Just ordered the Tank photo album. Thanks for the tip! 😉
I’ve never been to Old Warden or Duxford
You’ve not lived yet! 😉
I see you have the right contacts, unlike me. I always get kicked off WAY before sunset… Except at lovely Old Warden, of course.
That An-2 looks magic this way!
Sad news about the VC-10. I didn’t photohgraph it as there was too much “clutter” around it (some of it kicking and screaming from the cockpit windows).
Yep that’s nice too 🙂
Where you find those yellow skies though? 😀
I can categorically say it’s SUPERB 😀 and and the blue colour is VERY accurate. The only doubt that was put in my mind was by Damien’s pictures, which were taken earlier in the year under differing lighting conditions. (I saw him today and told him in future to exposure them correctly!). Come to Kemble tomorrow for a cracking day out!
And I told Albert to go for an eye test, get his monitor calibrated and sod off… glad to see you enjoyed your humble pie me old mucker…
Blue?
The new colour is RED. Man I am sunburnt… Factor 15 is childsplay… I’ll try 115 next time.
The Gladiator silhouette against the yellow sky is just fantastic!
Interesting to note that EVERY aircraft you can see in this shot is BRITISH!
…and old :diablo:
