…or given a few more years, B-36s escorted by F-86s.
I got to intervene here! ๐
Unless you’re talking about straight-wing F-86s (as originally designed), this scenario wouldn’t be possible. You see, Alexander Lippisch, the deisgner of the Me 163 Komet, was responsible for the design of the F-86’s swept wings. Lippisch would not have worked for North American if it wasn’t for Germany’s collapse! ๐
Damien, thanks. The Meteor idea is nice, but Monogram didn’t want too much speculation with the image. In fact, the flak bursts aren’t present in the image as used in their book (Jet Planes of the Third Reich, the Secret Projects, vol.2).
Thanks for the replies, guys! ๐
Either way it’s in interesting topic, which can be debated endlessly! ๐
Don’t forget though, that the Heinkel He 162 Volksjรคger was designed, built, flown and mass-produced in a matter of months! By May 1945 many had been delivered and hundreds were coming off the production lines. An amazing feat given the situation Germany was in by then!
To give some hard facts, the He 162 was designed in September 1944 (based on the P.1073 which was a private paper design project of Heinkel), first fown in December 1944 and by February 1945 over a hundred had been built alread.
I have uploaded the second image of this series now:

PS. The Sea Fury is sexier!!! But nothing beats an Me 262 in looks! :p
How about some 3D artwork? ๐

I made these last September for the two pilots who actually flew these planes during WW2:

I hope you like them! ๐
Funny enough, Vickers designed a couple of bombers like that during WW2. With six engines even. None was built, which is perhaps a good thing… ๐
Glad at least someone enjoyed that! ๐
I know about the scrapbook, but I was personally more interested in the technology behind the B-36 than its colours and unit history etc, so I didn’t buy it. Another reason I didn’t buy it, is that only in December I bought a third bookshelf and that one is already getting cramped. I plan to move home in a couple of months and I am really getting worried!!! It IS possible to have too much reference material… ๐ฎ
The B-36 silhouette is an actual 3D model, which unfortunately I never have managed to finish. The engine intakes proved a bit tricky at which point I picked up another project and never managed to finish the poor old B-36. Maybe one day I’ll restart it from scratch, at a much higher detail level too. Openable turret doors and all that. Should be cool in 3D… ๐
If you like the B-36 (I love it!), then you should definitely get “Magnesium Overcast” by Dennis R. Jenkins. It’s a great book about this airplane, dealing with all the prototypes and proposals too. Lots of detail for modellers as well. And best of all… for what it is, it’s really dirt-cheap!!!

(check out the review I’ve written on Amazon :))
And yes, I noticed too that the Hs P.122 looks darn slick in side view!
That distance is not much worse than most propeller aircraft, but I suppose you’re right. Given the power of these engines it may have been more than a handful.
O yea… I’ve expanded the size comparison a bit… ๐

Simply stunning! ๐
Hi Oscar,
I’m well aware the depicted formation is rather dodgy, to say the least. I’ve been playing for a long time with the composition, and this one looked best. So I sacrificed a bit of accuracy for something more aesthetically pleasing. Please see the discussion on MustangsMustangs for more on this:
http://www.mustangsmustangs.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=331&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0 ๐
By the way, the two Mustangs are actually slightly diverging in the image (that’s how I set them up in ‘virtual 3D’), so they would be safe ๐
As to your question for artwork, it’s possible ๐
Please contact me off-board and we can discuss this further.

Probably not as it was much faster ๐ But I have no doubt it would turn on the fly (for a jet) given its long-span wings and very short fuselage. Proportions that even a Sopwith Camel would be jealous of! ๐
