The trailer shows in flight refuelling from a jerry can, I have a feeling that it might confirm a few stereotypes about microlight flyers and sadly not in a good way, gulp. Fingers crossed that the trailer is the worst bit.
Just watched it on iplayer, some hairy flying on that and not just Richard. I felt for young Micheal going over the Irish Sea. Enjoyable.
Sorry, but Ice Pilots 3 airs this Sunday. Don’t know when Flying Wild Alaska series 2 starts.
Thanks atr42,Newforest and especially Interflug for your detailed account. I will pass on this information which I am sure will help with his decision making. I hate to put a dampener on anyone’s enthusiasm, but you don’t want a friend to make the wrong decision either only to regret it later. Thanks again.
I was on the Ryanair flight from Malaga to Edinburgh last night and was stuck at the stand for an hour. Communication was non existent. We were told that there was a security alert. Thankfully we only had hand baggage because if you had luggage in the hold you would have to wait up to 4 hours to collect it.
….it is a military airborne command post! That should answer the question in itself.
Yes I looked that up also on wiki. But why should a US Navy aircraft be circling at 23000 feet around the U.K. We have our own airforce.
Deano, I have to applaud your honesty, I have wanted to ask you if the job achieved your expectations, but it has been answered now. What about the pilots who will be made redundant from the R.A.F.? Surely they will be selected first for any pilot jobs out there due to hours of flying?
I recall in a previous post that someone asked for addresses of airline companies and Deano provided a link to the various airlines available. I had a look at a few including Ryanair and couldn’t believe they were charging €50 for an application for a captains post, I then read that the successful candidate will have this refunded. They now state that captain applications will only be accepted from within the company. The first officer salary was a joke also, with the responsibilities that the job entails, makes me thankful for the stress-free and relatively well paid job I am in at the moment.
With regards to No.1 engine not being able to shut down, surely there is some kind of fail safe device that could enable this? If the thrust for the engine was set at its last known position then what happens when you want to land and have no control over Vref speeds? Can the fuel for that engine not be shut off from inside the cockpit?
Thanks Dean, my knowledge for today has been enhanced. 🙂
D.Healey, I am not having a go at yourself, just trying to convey how my other half would have reacted. My daughter has a fobia about flying and has to take medication before a flight, if she overheard your conversation whilst on your flight she would have a severe panic attack which is no fun whilst in flight believe me.
Neil, with the knowledge I now know about flight and the help of Google and these forums, I could come on as a new poster and have you believe I am a working pilot, so unless you know the poster you have no proof as to their credentials. I have been on many forums of varying subjects and there are some Walter Mitty’s out there. Remember the movie “Catch Me If You Can”?
That’s an interesting account wawkrk, I hope you don’t think I am complaining in anyway with my question, just curious as to how it all trades off. I am just glad the woman on our flight was treated without hesitation and with dignity.
I have to agree with Niel to some extent. When I first started posting it was from a recommendation from a bloke I met at Edinburgh airport. I then was more interested in flight sim so he told me about a good tutorial on the forum regarding ILS landing. I knew there were working pilots on this forum, so thought what better place, but some of my replies were what you could say rather “grey” in tone and more professional than light hearted, but I suppose if it’s your job then you take it seriously and there will always be forum members with more sense of humour than others. If we were all the same it would be a rather boring world. That said it’s still an informative forum worth posting on.
p.s. If I made the remark to my wife that the original poster made to his wife during the landing I wouldn’t be replying to this now as she would have freaked. Be careful what you say during a flight you may put others off for life.
£165,000 and they are complaining? 😮
Where is my local Spanish class….
That salary has to be a typo, I don’t even think pilots would get paid that much.
I will and have used them, but I need not complain as I know when booking what I’m letting myself in for. I normally pay £2 return from Prestwick to Derry, that was when you could use your electron card, compared to the ferry price from Troon to Larne at £190 return it’s a no brainer. I just make Mooing sounds when waiting in the queue to board.
He has a very dry sense of humour and I found it quite ammusing, I wouldn’t be surprised if he suggested clinging onto the wings and fuselage like they do on the trains in India or maybe you can cling to the undercarriage like the Romanian chap, anything for a cheap flight.:p
