Lets do a poll on how many people went to RIAT or farnborough to see 558!
Yup I went to farnborough specifically to see the vulcan fly , I dont see whats so odd about wanting to see one type that you havnt seen before , makes perfect sense to me , I aslo made the trip to farnborough on a different day specifically to see the F22 fly , anything else in the air those days were an added bonus.
John
Many thanks for the heads up.

Most of the wet weather gear available do a great job and some are reasonable priced too.
A Tescos carrier bag is free and does the job.

I believe the early landing of the reds was due to a bird strike, but don’t quote me on that, it’s just the rumour around Farnborough.
Tom.
I read they had a bird strike a week or two ago ? if its true of wednesday thats quite unfortunate.

I was there on Wedneasday and I think a chance was missed with the Reds and the Vulcan in the sky together. The 2 Vulcan slots was take off and then display slot. The reds just did a run and break, although there was a delay due to an air ambelance having to pass through Farnborough airspace. One of the Reds also landed early so they might have had an problem.

Hi Phill
Yes it did seem like a missed opportunity with the reds + Vulcan.
I didnt really think anything of the single red hawk landing before the rest as I would have presumed it to be “Red10” , that doesnt appear to be the case this time though as the resulting formation seemed odd .

Ooooopps just seen this posted in the Vulcan thread , my apologies to the forum for being an excited idiot.

The 3 F-22s departed arrived at Fairford (RIAT) last tuesday.. They had a few practice demos that Park and View people attended and went for the Farnborough validation last week too. The show on saterday and sunday was cancelled at RIAT- and it had perhaps the best selection of aircraft I had seen… with the star of the show being the Raptor and there was also due to be a static Rafale. Anyway after Sat/Sun got cancelled I decided to go to the Park and View to watch the departures on Monday this week – basically a spotters day. It was pretty top notch and we got to see all 3 Raptors and one on its way to its first and last offical display in Europe this year – at Farnborough. It was annoying that Moga decided not to do a burner takeoff like the F-15s that took off at the same time but at least he did some cool passes for about two minutes after he returned from farnborough. The F-22s then were due to fly back to the States on monday but they left instead on tuesday.. they are probably back already. They did cause quite a stir though from talking to people – they are a truely fabulous display. By along way the best Ive seen and from talking to people better than the OVT that I saw at Farnborough 2 years back or the Su-30 last year at RIAT. I was really gutted that Farnborough, despite being a trade day was open to the public on monday for 28 quid. Not many people went mind you but at least i’d get to see the Raptors demo. Well anyway, hopefully next year. Bring on Farnborough on sunday!!!!
I was lucky enough to see the Raptor display at Farborough and thought it was superb and yes I did enjoy it more than the Mig 29OVT in 2006.

Rather than a new thread I thought I would add to this one , news today

SOUTHAMPTON’S skyline could be on the verge of a dramatic change as wind turbines could soon be generating power in the city.
The council wants to start a consultation on building up to 20 medium sized turbines as part of its commitment to using more sustainable forms of energy.
The first would incorporate a design that reflects the Spitfire heritage in the city.
Campaigners have long been calling for a permanent memorial to the Spitfire that was designed by Southampton’s RJ Mitchell.
Cabinet Member for Environment and Sustainability, Councillor Richard Williams, said: “When it comes to innovation it is only fitting that we look at how we can commemorate and pay tribute to one of Southampton’s greatest innovators of all – R.J Mitchell.”
Cllr Williams added that exploring the need for wind power in Southampton was essential if the city was to meet its renewable energy goal.
“Southampton is hugely proactive in tackling climate change,” he said.
“Over the coming weeks and months we will be looking carefully at the possibility of how we can generate significant energy in the city by using small to medium sized wind turbines.
“Wind turbines represent unique symbols of an area’s pledge to tackle climate change.”
The wind turbines would be built by the private sector on commercial or industrial sites at no cost to the tax payer.
They will be subject to complex procurement procedures and feasibility studies.
Just as I thought, a slap on the wrist… Should have 12 mnths working in a veterans hospital alongside nursing staff caring for those whose money he stole!
Yea just a slap on the wrist , didnt expect them to do anymore and its not much of a deterent . One thing though , I wouldnt want some of these people working around our veterans or anyone else that may be vulnerabe put them to work cleaning up memorials or memorial gardens or on graffitti clearup.
best wishes
